Had an extraction last week and today the dentist told me I have dry socket...have scared myself reading online about the fact painkillers don't stop the pain and it can last Weeks...anyone any experience? I'm dreading spending more Weeks in constant pain.

Hi Pinot
I had dry socket after having my wisdom teeth out a couple of years ago and yes, the pain is horrendous-second only to labour I reckon-BUT it does not last long once you have had it treated. I had mine packed with some amazing clove oil-type antiseptic at the maxillofacial unit in the hospital and the pain lessened considerably within a day or so; it really is the pain of the socket being dry and the bone exposed that makes it so excruciating. I hope you can get it seen to soon- you have my sympathy as I remember it all too well! Hang on in there though as once it's treated and starts to heal properly you'll be fine x

Sorry pinkr- iPad wrongly predicted your name- wasn't trying to give you a new one! Take care x

thanks! I've had it packed with the clove stuff today and I've to go back on Monday to get it done again. I was just feeling a bit down as I start Mat leave next week and was looking forward to some relaxing etc without the constant nagging pain :)
