It's a boy! What do I do now??

I have just been told I am having a boy. I have NO IDEA what to do with a boy. So far there have been 6 little girls in my family, so no one else will have any idea either. I had visions of dolls houses and pretty dresses.

I am delighted that so far it, he, is healthy, but help! I am feeling clueless. Did anyone else feel the same?

I don't know what I'm having yet, but I feel the same as regards boys. to be honest they are mostly the same for the first months and by then you have got to know your baba and it doesn't matter what gender it is

They are no different, honestly! I have a boy and a girl and the only difference is the clothing they aim at boys and girls.

Yes, I did. I thought, oh my god, a boy: what are they about? I know nothing about boys. Then I calmed down. They are humans after all and don 't arrive aged twelve so I have time to get to know my little individual ( aged 13 weeks now). There is a book called raising boys, can't remember who it is by but sure will appear in google search. I am humming and haaing about whether to read it as don't want to stereotype my little individual befor I have got to know him!

I was a bit like that when pg with DS but as soon as he arrived it didn't matter what sex he was. Now he's 21 months and just into toys but most are unisex toys ATM. He had the odd car too

Remember to point his willy down when changing his nappy!!
My DS will be 5 next week and I will never forget the first nappy change at my parents house where he wee'd across the room into my dads mug of tea!!

haha! I was exactly the same. I come from a family of three girls and needless to say was totally ready for dolls and dresses and ballet classes (I know its stereotyping but its the way I am).

Totally not ready for a boy but actually quite excited at the prospect. Hubby of course was delighted.

I'm sure its going to be great fun.

When changing a boy nappy, have a wad of loo roll handy. nappy off, loo roll over penis immediately. It's like an uncontrollable hosepipe if you don't!

It genuinely makes no difference. Babies are babies and they come with their own unique personalities. I have a girl who is a total tomboy and a boy who is very sensitive and loves pink. They are just who they are. As babies and toddlers, it makes no difference at all. When older, they are a lot more susceptible to the heaps of gender specific crap they aim at them but it's not inevitable.

I haven't even had the weeing in eye experience. DS never weed during a nappy change.

Little boy clothes are really cute. I went through a phase of dressing ds up like a tiny little man in little tank tops and corduroy trousers.

It's not that big a deal. Honestly.

I heard from experienced parents that boys are more difficult as babies/toddlers, but get a lot easier when they are older. And girls on the other hand are easier as babies and get more difficult as they get older (I cant imagine how my parents coped with me - proper madam!!).

I have one of each and as we're still in the baby/toddler stage I would say its personality not willies or fanjos that makes the difference.
People bring stereotypes into it and preconceived ideas about boys/girls which skews how they see things.

I felt just like this when I found out I was having my DS, 4 years after my dd was born. I didn't know what I was going to do with him!

Well it's quite easy. He just does everything his sister did and plays with everything she played with .

I'm finding out what my third baby is tomorrow and wouldn't mind another boy. Nappy changing is so much faster and easier with them!

I've got three boys and never had any wee in the face etc. DS2 did poo across the room at 5 days old, but I suspect that could just as easily happen with a girl...

Weirdly, this has been worrying me too! I'm 35 weeks with DC1, and have felt that this was a girl from the word go - weird, as I was a tomboy growing up and always imagined myself as a mother of boys, and I also have a totally lovely DSS who's nearly 11 and great.

But I keep having the odd panic about 'what if it's a boy?' 'I wouldn't know what to do with a boy' also wouldn't know what to do with a girl tbh and have been worrying that I'd subconcsiously (sorry, brain forgotten how to spell) treat him differently and communicate differently...

It's totally irrational, but I understand your feeling! Hopefully, by the time it pops out, I'll be so tired busy that I won't be able to overthink it...

I had just the same reaction as you when I found out. I am so glad that I found out during pregnancy so I had time to adjust, by the time he was born I felt thrilled about it, and I have never looked back or wished for anything different. I have TWO boys now. Wouldnt change it for anything, its lovely.

Nope. That's a myth.

I think the only difference between boys and girls as babies is that with a boy you're likely to get wee-ed on in the eye but with a girl it's likely to run off the changing mat onto your feet.

Get some folded muslins (FFS autocorrect, I don't mean Muslims) to put over the penis whilst changing him.

Other than that, the same. My DS plays with a dolls house most days...

Iv only been wee'ed on once ( not bad with 2 boys), I dot think most pee that often when nappy is off

Also clothes so much easier. Eventually girls have trousers/ shorts/ skirts/ dresses. Boys generally have trousers or shorts, that's it :)
