Stretch & Sweep - come and talk to me about bloody show/pains after

40+3 and had a stretch and sweep an hour an half ago. She said I was 2-3cm dialated and that she felt baby's head. It was uncomfortable but fine. She said I might have some bloody show and bit of cramping so I guess this is totally normal but I suddenly feel quite sick, massive period pain feeling and backache. Felt the urge to poo but after straining nothing but clumps of blood (sorry TMI) and the CONSTANT need to wee!!

So can this be a sign of the S&S being successful and doing something or can this just happen to everyone and mean nothing? This is ds3 but first time had a S&S so a bit clueless!

Oh hope so, then pain will be worth it! Been having braxton hicks regularly for weeks now so ready for the real thing now!

Fingers crossed!

Just had a sweep too. The consultant said that there will be a show, but it might not be "the show".
However, the rest of your symptoms sound postitive...

He also said sweeps have a 50% success rate which I felt was heartening.

Fingers crossed it is starting for you!!

Sounds really positive Looneytune!! I had one on Tuesday and had nothing but some uncomfortable backache after and am STILL preg so clearly has not worked. I am also only 1cm dialated so would be over the moon to be 2-3! Think you are winning the race to the finish line!

Still here but this definitely feels like early labour (if not I may just cry!). Good luck to those of you also waiting!

Ooh good luck! I was the same after my second sweep and labour started properly within a few hours Smile

Sorry to add a downer to things... I had a sweep on Tuesday at 40+1. Period pains, bloody mucus, sick feeling. But I'm still here and waiting lol! I was also 2-3cm. This morning I had tons of yellow/clear mucus which I think was the plug proper. I was so certain things were going to kick off on Tuesday night but just ended up having a really restless night and feeling rotten for it.

Hope things are different for you, but don't get too excited and have a rough night yourself. Labour vibes needed all around I think! Good luck!

You got your answer!!! Congratulations!!! X

looneytune · 22/06/2013 11:54

Thanks all and hoping others that are waiting don't have too much longer :)

Yes, midwife did well to catch. She's a student and I was one of her 'cases' and happened to be her first delivery. Poor thing, what a challenge for her but she was fab and it's some story to tell! Wink

Hoping to find some help here instead of starting another thread on same topic - 39 weeks tomorrow and had a third sweep at lunch time (need baby evicted early for medical reasons) cervix just over 2cm dilated. Midwife had a good poke and came away with some blood so said to expect some bleeding and not to worry. Have continued bleeding since but not really really heavily so wasn't too worried but just passed a fairly big blood clot (couple of inches round?) is this normal/ a good sign? Anyone had the same? No other signs of impending labour unfortunately.

Oh and congratulations Looney! Hope you're enjoying newborn snuggles!
