Tea helps tone your uterus - won't evict the baby. Some people I know have had success with acupuncture but really baby won't come till it wants to.

Apparently you'd need to eat six pineapples skins and all to have any effect.

Shenanagins · 20/06/2013 08:34

I tried the tea, pineapple, curry and sex the last time - none worked. However, oh has been instructed to bring home a pineapple tonight as clutching at straws now!

hope you go soon.

seems like tonight we are having pineapple vindaloo and comedy sex. Am so fed upI keep going outside after people have cut their grass hoping a good strong sneeze will finish this.

Walking lots, bouncing on an exercise ball, sex. I did the ball part. I've also noticed that after laughing so hard I needed a wee, my waters broke. My friends waters broke shortly after a girls night in that included A LOT of laughing. Might just be a coincidence but maybe worth a try

I went sixteen days overdue, two stretch and sweeps and still needed a synto drop to get labour going.

I tried hot curry, sex, pineapples, evening primrose oil, nothing worked.

I suspect it's a combination of the right cocktail of hormones from the baby and the baby's position (they need to be pushing down on the cervix).

In the end it was the second sweep plus 22 hours waiting that did it. And even then I was stuck in pre-labour for days. Have you discussed having a sweep done with your midwife? They just run a finger around the inside of the cervix to loosen the membrane and it has a 60% success rate within 24 hours (and the second one worked for me).

I think that nothing can bring on labour until your body decides when to kick off, so don't do anything that makes you uncomfortable or you don't enjoy, the last few weeks are hard enough!

I drank raspberry leaf tea last pregnancy, I was a week late but had very powerful contractions from the onset of labour and had a fifteen minute pushing stage. But, could have had nothing to do with it! I liked it as a drink though!

You would have to eat a truck load of pineapple for it to work.

RTL only helps the uterus contract during and after labour but there is no evidence to say it brings on labour.

Sex is supposed to be good because the sperm is supposed to soften the cervix in late pregnancy (no idea how true that is) Also nipple stimulation if you are up for it but this would have to be done over several hours. Bouncing and walking.

Other than that if baby is comfy it will stay put"

It's a bit woo but have you thought of having some reflexology? I had a foot massage just before I was induced (induced on due date) and DS went loopy, the lady thought it was freaky. No idea whether it made induction more successful though and it really hurt.

MrsBri · 20/06/2013 11:25

4athome, sperm contains prostaglandins, the same hormone as is used to induce, so it can help with the cervix, yes. The most efficient method of getting the hormone from sperm is sadly ingesting through the gut though!

Despite knowing that nothing will work, I do keep trying various things! :-/

40 weeks today and impatient!

4athomeand1cooking · 20/06/2013 14:09

Mrsbri I knew there was a scientific explanation but sadly for my dh we won't be finding out Grin

I won't be telling him either. He'd be offering it for breakfast, lunch and dinner Grin
