I've just done a test as I was late and there were definitely 2 pink lines!

I so was not expecting this and I can't tell DH as he's away until the weekend - I had to tell someone and I'm sorry I can't say who I am, it wouldn't be fair for thousands of others to know about this before he does, but I was bursting.

Only trouble is, I'm mean to to be going to see some friends in a few days (before I see dh to tell him) and they are going to notice if I'm not drinking wine with them.

Come to think of it, I have had a good bottle of wine over the last 3 days - will that have harmed the baby?

I am actually shaking now. How am I going to hold things together?

You'll be a Jan girl; I tested postive on 5 June 2000, a week late, and had an EDD of 4 Feb the next year.

(I remember, because it was my birthday.)

There is one antibiotic that you really cannot drink with - it's similar to the antabuse drugs and will make you quite sick to your stomach if you try to mix it with alcohol. It's called Flagyl, or metronidazole, and it's used to treat bacterial infections including the vaginal infection gardenerella. You should not have too many nosy enquiries about that I would hope Shock

HC, you missed the reason for not drinking that is hardest to argue with :

"I'm having treatment for alcoholism"

Oh and congrats up the duff. I look forward to hearing who you are and how you are getting on

:)

thanks. will let you all know who I am as soon as I can. Smile

antidepressants but that could end up involving a very elaborate bullshit plot
You could say you have a bloodtest and have been told not to drink maybe?
Or take one glass and drink slowly
Or say you're getting over a tummy bug
Or say that you're ttc and drinking is off the menu ;)

Esmummy · 31/05/2006 13:18

Can you let us know yet ? Grin

uptheduffandincognito · 31/05/2006 13:20

just say you had a boozy night at home a few nights ago and are feeling rough at the mere mention of alcohol.

Or that you've got to take the kids somewhere the next day and a hangover will be a nightmare....

Congratualtions BTW.....Smile. You'll get all manner of bribes to reveal how you are brfore your dh gets home soon...speaking from personally experience and all thatWinkGrin

Oh its so hard, i don't think I can cope, I hate surprises.
Can't you just call DH and explain that there are a very irratinal and impatient bunch of ladies sitting on the www to find out who you are, so you had no choice but to tell him over the phone. Wink
When is he due home ?

uptheduffandincognito · 31/05/2006 13:24

say you are on antihistamine half the world is no one will doubt that -congats btw.

neena28 · 31/05/2006 14:28

I had a abcess under a wisdom tooth that I had antib's for. Dentist is a right laugh but did firmly tell me not to drink as you vomit within a couple of minutes! My mum had them too and did drink and was really sick so it is a valid excuse.

Congratulations and sorry if I've crossed posts with anyone, haven't had time to read all of them.

I had a similar dillema and showed up for an evening with a carton of cranberry juice. I said that I was drinking it "for a reason" and the women all assumed urinary tract problems. I didn't correct them, but I felt ok because I hadn't lied to anyone, just allowed them to come to the wrong conclusion.

uptheduffandincognito · 31/05/2006 16:00

Yes, I will defo take a couple of cartons of juice in place of wine.

Will have to seriously work on my excuse. Managed to chat to friends and my folks today without giving anything away, I think.

Both DS and DD were conceived a few days before me drinking a lot. I think my body was having all it could before it rejected alcohol for months.

AllieBongo · 31/05/2006 16:24

with ds i was 7 weeks gone before i knew and was a binge drinker and heavy smoker. he was a big baby and fine! dd similar, was 6 weeks gone and had been out on the tequila. she was even bigger! at least you know now! what's your name by the way ??

uptheduffandincognito · 31/05/2006 16:24

I have half a bottle of wine sitting here - I was expecting to need it to help with period pains about now. Need to think up some clever way to tell dh now.
