I've just done a test as I was late and there were definitely 2 pink lines!

I so was not expecting this and I can't tell DH as he's away until the weekend - I had to tell someone and I'm sorry I can't say who I am, it wouldn't be fair for thousands of others to know about this before he does, but I was bursting.

Only trouble is, I'm mean to to be going to see some friends in a few days (before I see dh to tell him) and they are going to notice if I'm not drinking wine with them.

Come to think of it, I have had a good bottle of wine over the last 3 days - will that have harmed the baby?

I am actually shaking now. How am I going to hold things together?

Settles down, obviously.

HarpsichordCarrierOnSea · 31/05/2006 09:16

ok reasons for not drinking:
big night out a few weeks ago, now sworn off it
trying to lose weight
possible intolerance making you bloated Shock
antibiotics (for invisible tooth problems?)
suddenly become methodist
ttc?

AllieBongo · 31/05/2006 09:19

hi-jack apology! all is good CD. FIL is well, so thanks for your input Grin

Mmm. edodgy doesn't drive...

LadySherlockofLGJ · 31/05/2006 09:19

Excellent list Harpsi....

Uwila · 31/05/2006 09:37

Congratulations. Say someone bet you you couldn't a go two weeks without alcohol. And you've risen to the challenge. Or possibly, you went to a nutritionist about losing a few pounds and she said you had to detox yourself of alcohol.

Uwila · 31/05/2006 09:38

Do methodists not drink?

Elibean · 31/05/2006 09:45

Congratulations!

Wine or anything else not going to harm a fly, let alone a baby - my gp told me for the first two to three weeks after implantation (about 10 days before your period is due) nothing goes from mother to baby anyway: there is no blood flow between you yet. And even if it did, thats not a huge amount - you'll be fine!

Esmummy · 31/05/2006 09:47

You've been invited out with DH's work, have found a killer dress but need to detox to be able to wear it.

Buyable story ?

uptheduffandincognito · 31/05/2006 09:55

Thanks for all your suggestions. Now trying to wipe the silly smile off my face.

They definitely wouldn't go for the detox idea or the bet and they already know my religious affiliation. Think it will need to be the antibiotics although even then, I don't know that they will buy it as we meet or are in contact regularly and I'm a lousy liar.

Great list though Harpsi - you've had to think of these before Wink

Can you not go for the vodka and orange route and just have orange?

Worked for my friend once.

Pruni · 31/05/2006 09:58

Dying to know who you are!
Congratulations!!

Northerner · 31/05/2006 09:59

AllieBongo · 31/05/2006 10:01

who?

melrose · 31/05/2006 10:01

a friend of mine manged to come out for dinner and fool us all, just let a glass of wine be poured had the odd sip and refused top ups, even I didn't notice.

She did complete the lie v well though by going home early and when questioned said she was taking her DH home before he got drunk as she was trying to get pg and needed to have sex!!

Congrats. I'm not convinced the antibiotics one will work, it's that standard thing that everyone always says when they're pregnant and not drinking, I'm sure they'll suss.

Esmummy · 31/05/2006 10:06

No fair for Northerner to know and not us :(

I'm SO pleased for you.

Have a glass, put it in front of you, drink it very very very slowly over the course of the evening.

rubles · 31/05/2006 12:58

I defo would say to be wary of the antibiotics excuse - most women are far, far too canny to be duped by that one, I would see straight through it....unless you don't mind them suspecting, but then they might start making jokes and sarcastic comments about 'antibiotics' and winding you up so you end up giving the game away by laughing or grinning massively - in which case you have effectively just told them, haven't you?

When I was pregnant I honestly found it really easy to fool people by not topping my drink up or tipping it away on the sly and having a glass of water alongside to really drink. Did it many, many a time. After a couple of drinks people are too pissed themselves to notice details like how much you are drinking.
