Chicken pox? Help!

I have called nhs 111 as my surgery is closed for the day. They were ok, and referred me to a long doc on the rcog site.

I was in the company of a 5yo for about 10-15 mins on Friday evening last week and have been told today she has chicken pox.

I had cp when I was 8 or 9. I am currently 27+3. I think I will be ok, but will also speak to my GP tomorrow. I am concerned however for a friend of mine who I'm meant to be seeing at the weekend who has just informed me of her pregnancy! Even if I am ok, is there a chance I can pass it to her?

I've had a nasty viral infection for the last 4 days too... I'm not normally a hypochondriac but I am a bit worried about this.

Any advice anyone?

If you've had chickenpox you are immune so don't worry.

If you want to put your mind at rest call your doctor, but you and your baby are fine.

Thank you! I thought I was. Am just wondering whether I ought to visit my pregnant friend at the weekend now though.

You're not necessarily immune you can get it more than once, I'm 35 weeks and a mindee (I'm a childminder) got it a couple of weeks ago my gp did a blood test to check I was immune, it only took 2 days to come back. There's an outbreak at school now so at least i know I'm immune for definite.

if she only got spots today then she wouldn't have been contagious on friday as they are only contagious for 1-2 days before the spots appear which would have been yesterday and Monday. If you have had it before then you are likely to be immune anyway.

Don't worry. I've just been exposed to cp 24/7 as DS has had them and been told by GP it's not a problem as long a I've had them. Good job really cos not sure how you avoid your own child!

Chicken pox are actually contagious for about a week before spots.....but you should be fine and I see no reason not to go see your friend unless you start to feel unwell. You can always ask doc for a quick blood test tomorrow to put your mind at ease x

you are probably immune, but even if you are not, at 27 weeks you it is unlikely to do baby any harm.

Chicken pox can be dangerous in the first trimester, and very late on in pregnancy (I got it at 38 weeks, and gave birth with active spots, which wasn't so good as DD1 got it - she's fine)

from nhs:

Chickenpox is most infectious from one to two days before the rash starts, until all the blisters have crusted over (usually five to six days after the start of the rash).

Thanks all, I've spoken to my GP, who has reassured me it will all be fine. Now I just need to get shot of my throat infection and I'll be grand.
