Should I be feeling proper kicks by now?

Hi there,

I'm 20+3weeks with current bump. I can feel movements but rather than kicks, its more those strong pressure pushing ones against my belly, just behind my button. And its not very often I feel anything.

When pregnant with my son, he's now 3 and a half, I felt my first big kick at 19+1 and they just increased from there and he was such a wriggler! Still true now he's born, never stays still lol

I know all pregnancies/babies are different, I'm just wondering if bump should be moving/kicking more than it is. My hubby hasn't been able to feel anything yet.

This is my 3rd pregnancy, we lost number 2 in a MMC so I am over anxious so don't know if I'm just fretting! 12week scan was fine, 20week scan was a bit of an ordeal, took over an hour and had trouble finding clear pics of heart but everything 'seemed' ok.

Thank u for any advice x

hi Trudy.
ive been wondering the same thing.
felt lots of gentle flutters on Friday and sat but since then have only been feeling what I can only be described as a sudden pressure on the left side of my belly.
its as if baby shifts position and stays there and a part of them is pushing from the inside?
im 17 weeks with my second so surely far to early for big movements like this?

Totally normal. All depends on the position of the baby and the position of the placenta. Generally, our bodies being pretty clever, the placenta attaches in a new place for subsequent pregnancies and this means you have different cushioning in different places and as babies like to face the placenta, you find they often prefer different positions too. Plenty of time for being booted in the ribs yet. Grin

Hmm, its strange that I've done it all before but feel I can't remember a thing!

I have felt fluttering from early on and these strong pressure like a head or bottom sticking out for the past few weeks, I'm just unsure if my baby should be kicking properly by now or I should worry that its not??

People have told me u feel ur subsequent pregnancies earlier than ur first??

Totally fine. This is my second pregnancy and I didn't feel anything until 22 weeks not even fluttering.

Your placenta is probably cushioning the blows.

Hi, just to reassure you with my 1st pregnancy felt big kicks by 20 weeks but had a low lying placenta. This time rounds felt nothing until 24 weeks but placenta is anterior high. Now 26+5 and the little one is kicking lots!

TrudyW · 19/06/2013 19:38

Oh brilliant, I'm just stressing myself out! Thanks for the reassurance ladies x

yes!
that's exactly what it fells like!
like babys head or bum pushing.
but is that poss at our early stages?
confused.

Hi I'm 20+1 weeks with dc3 and iv been feeling flutters from very early on but I still haven't felt a proper kick Hmm
With my other two pregnancies me and my partner could feel full on kicks at 20 weeks, but this one nothing!
I'm putting it down to her being in an awkward position, every scan I have had has been a struggle because of the way she has been laid so iv just put it down to that.

Very normal. My dd was a squirmer and wriggler and gave me butterfly tickles. DS was a kicker and just kicked all the time. This baby is a kicker too. I'm 20 weeks today.
