I've not kept any food or water down since about 8pm Monday night. I feel rotten. I rang the midwife today and she said to go to a&e because I'll need dehydrating. I hate hospitals and I'm going to have to go on my own as DP can't afford any time off work.

can someone tell me that I'll be alright and doctors/hospitals are not as scary as I think?

It is going to be alright.

I had something similar and was diagnosed with hyperemesis gravidarum.

I was hospitalised eight times during the course of my pregnancy to treat dehydration and was given drips (glucose, amino acids etc.)

It helped to sustain my pregnancy and keep my DS's growth on track (i.e. prevent IUGR). My DS was born healthy and did not show any signs of being affected by either HG or the subsequent hospitalisations.

I am very grateful for the hospital treatments and it was not painful or unpleasant.

I shall hold your hand, you will be fine, they will lool after you. How many weeks are you?

AbiElizabeth · 19/06/2013 10:57

thanks guys. I'm 13+6 weeks and I hate hospitals after lots of bad experiences with family members and stuff.

Another hand to hold. A good friend of mine had this after severe vomiting in pregnancy and went into hospital for a couple of days and was on a drip to rehydrate her. She told me she felt so much better after this.

I'm sorry you have had bad experiences with hospitals, it is hard when you have to go to one yourself after this.

Just think how much better you will feel once you have some fluids inside you. For the doctors and nurses, it is just another day for them and so they will certainly put you at your ease.

Hope that helps a little.

Make you take your phone charger and an e book or something.

Then we can keep you company.

Holds hand
I was quite scared of hospitals and have found the antenatal care that I had through this pregnancy was really good and went a long way to easing my fear, which is good as I am birthing in hospital.
I hope it is the same for you.
Hope you feel better after some fluids and meds.

I'm just attempting to get dressed and working up the energy to walk to a&e I have no money for a cab and there isn't a bus that goes there. it's only a 20 min walk but I think it will take me a while as it's so damn hot

OP posts:
fanjodisfunction · 19/06/2013 13:17

Are you there yet OP? Poor you having to walk, hope your ok.

AbiElizabeth · 19/06/2013 13:40

yeah I'm here. sitting in the waiting room. it's packed so I might be here for a while. the walk was horrible though. I threw up on the street and a middle age woman tutted at me and said if I couldn't handle my drink then I shouldn't drink. Hmm
