Leaky boobs

This is a totally random question, why do my boobs only leak at night?!

So much that I will have patches on the mattress or will wake up feeling wet. I sleep naked but wear an underwired and padded bra during the day (which is totally comfortable and doesn't appear to dig in anywhere), could that be why?

Does anyone else leak more at certain times than others? I'm 33 weeks btw.

can i ask when this starts? just bracing myself for the next onslaught of dodgy pregnancy symptoms! (am 24 weeks)

The underwire could be pressing on your milk ducts without you being aware of it so is blocking them during the day. You could be leaking into the padding so its absorbing it. It could be because you're relaxed overnight so producing more colostrum. Maybe try a normal unwired bra for a few days and see if you notice a difference.

Never leaked in pregnancy, but I do know you produce more prolactin at night (milk production hormone) so maybe that's why? Explains why when baby is here you spend all evenin and night with a baby atatched to you cluster feeding because the signal to produce more milk works best then.

Kelly, it's different for everyone. I started at about 25 weeks but some women don't leak at all and it has no impact on how much milk you'll make when your baby's here. (My body has seemed to do every single thing early so I'm convinced he'll be early too!)

Dave, that does make sense. Damn, I was hoping to fill his belly during the day and not do much feeding at night but I guess you can't dictate that can you?!

Will try an unwired just to check, I don't want to be blocking anything.

Mine leaked at night from 17 weeks. It's just colostrum and as PP said, you produce more milk overnight after the baby is born so it makes sense. I find wearing a sleep bra + breast pads overnight prevents the soggy patches on the sheets!
