so basically I haven't been able to keep anything down today. not even water.

my question is this, how long before I should seek medical attention if I continue to not be able to keep fluids down?

Keep sipping water, just a sip at a time, your body will absorb some of it, even if it does just come back up again. When did you last go for a wee? Was it strong in smell/colour?

I would say if you are worried enough to post on here, then it probably wouldn't hurt to phone your midwife or out of hours gp for advice.

How far along are you? Sorry to hear you are suffering. Vomiting even once makes me feel awful. Have you tried flat lemonade? Maybe try sucking on ice chips or orange wedges/satsuma etc? I found plain crackers to be one of the best things to have. I also liked citrusy fruits eg grapes/oranges. But do try to have something. Even if it is teaspoons or you suck the juice from a fruit. Then when you do feel better, plain white toast? Hope you feel better soon. If you are still unwell tomorrow, maybe call someone, though these days on the NHS they just tell you to try self-managing before anyone actually cares!

I would ring your assessment unit for advice. I think they say 24 hours maybe. I had a stomach bug a while back but managed to keep some fluids down after 12 hours so managed to avoid hospital admission and a drip which is what they said I would need if it continued. Fwiw I found ice pops stayed down better and I sucked on ice cubes too

Have you done a pinch test? Pinch the skin on the back of your hand - if it goes flat straight away you're still ok, if it stays pinched once you let go then you're dehydrated and should see someone.

I'm 13+5
I thought I was over morning sickness but today has been horrendous. I can't keep anything tried ice and lollies, dry toast, sipping water, sipping squash, sucking fruit. nothing is staying down. I just want to cry Sad

I really feel for you, I've just had a really bad couple of days with v&d. I'm just over 7 weeks so not completely sure if it was a bug or extreme morning sickness.

Rest as much as you can.

Get yourself checked out. You are at risk of getting severely dehydrated...the doctor will need to check your keytones. I had HG and could not keep anything down including water. Believe me you don't want to get it! So get yourself down to go ASAP! Hope it's just a case of normal ms for you! Good luck!

Reebok · 18/06/2013 20:39

That was meant to say gp not go...damn auto correct.

if tomorrow is as bad I'm going to the docs. I've kept half a glass.of lemonade down since 8pm so fingers crossed tomorrow will be better
