Lol (also due 3rd on Friday!!!) after a night of stop start contractions that have come to nothing I've been looking 4 ways 2 get baby out or pains 2 start again 2 give me hope this pregnancy won't last forever! Found an "interesting" bit of reading sujessting a glass of wine 2 help me relax thus encouraging baby out! Few questions IF I decide 2 give in ( I can't relax any other way at min!)

  1. is it all alcohol or just wine? Could I have a small cider?
  2. if it worked would pain relief b out of question?
  3. I've got gbs so have 2 have anti biopics iv in labour..1 drink not good with anti biopics is it let alone iv?!! I'm so stressed n anxious after "faulse labour" last night I'm anxious how will cope! Please no judging me I'm just asking as a desperate mad preggers woman?!!

You'd be better going with meditation than alcohol. It would affect any of the things your asking about.

Applepiesky · 17/06/2013 17:36

Nobody will judge you. I've had the odd glass of wine so far during my pregnancy. Literally just one at a time and only a handful of times

FoofFighter · 17/06/2013 17:41

Really cannot see how the effects of a glass of wine can induce labour, sorry, but certainly have one if you want anyway :) How about relfexoology or the old wives tales stuff of fresh pineapples, sex, curry etc?

Mollnlillahsmummy · 17/06/2013 17:46

Don't think can stomach sex or currie! Wine probley won't go down eather! Lol just curious n more bout the relaxing effect really!

I doubt it'll get the baby out, but quite honestly I can't see the harm of a glass of wine if it'll make you feel a bit better

My MW is completely anti alcohol. I really want to enjoy a lovely ice cold glass of Rosé this evening as I'm soooo hot and uncomfortable today (sorry, cannot compare to you, I'm only 22+5 Blush )

But I'm scared because I have to have blood test and urine test at my MW appt next week and she might report me to social services. Am I being completely paranoid???

What would you do? Sorry op to steal away. I'm not sure what to advise you due to the IV you need. Some antibiotics are fine with alcohol, it just means they get in your system a bit quicker because your blood is thinner. But others like Metronidazole for example you must avoid alcohol altogether! Sorry I'm no help at all. Sad

Bunnylion · 18/06/2013 11:09

newmum0113 she will not report you. Firstly they are not testing your blood and urine for alcohol, secondly it's none of her business if you decide to have a glass of wine.

OP wine won't bring on labour and, as frustrated as you are, your baby will come when it's ready - it will not say there forever. Think of an apple falling of a tree, you don't need to tug or shake it, each one will drop when it's ready and some drop a few days before or after others.

My MW said if it starts at night time then have a large whiskey (I hate whiskey but understand her sentiment) to help me get some sleep before the birth. Some people have morphine or other drugs during labour so a glass of wine really won't hurt if it'll help you get some rest. I'm sure that's the reason your MW suggested it, not because it'll magically start contractions. They will magically start on their own.

Newmum0113 - they won't be testing you for alcohol, there is nothing illegal about having alcohol in pg so social services wouldn't be interested anyway, and regardless of that there won't be any alcohol left in your blood/urine tomorrow morning from a glass of wine tonight. Enjoy your rose!

i'm with knittingirl, relax and enjoy a glass of rose!

Thanks ladies! We just picked up our pram system from the shop today (bought early as great offer!) and have got home to check it all. Found out they've put the wrong car seat base in the box so we've ended up with the ISOFIX base not the EASYFIX base. DH is annoyed that we have to go back tomorrow to swap them.

Deserving this glass of wine! :-)
