Bleeding

Hello, I'm about 7 weeks and bleeding, I had two previous mmc so unlike this one, can anyone tell me what to expect? Can see doctor until Tuesday and just feel really anxious :(

Is it fresh blood or older (brown blood)? Is there much of it? Do you have any pain? If it's a small amount of older blood it could just be implantation bleeding.

It was brown at first now red, not a huge amount but have slight cramping now

Hi Purplefrogshoe. Having had 3 MCs I know how worried you must be feeling, but please remember that lots of women bleed during the first trimester and go on to have successful pregnancies. I had 2 heavy bleeds at 6 and 10 weeks, and am now 34 weeks.

Do you have the number of your local Early Pregnancy Unit? Many will accept self referrals, particularly from women who have MC'd in the past. It might be worth phoning them first thing tomorrow so you don't have to wait until Tuesday to find out if all is ok.

Based on previous experience and midwife advice at the time, I would go to a&e today as they will take your details and refer you to your EPU who will probably scan you tomorrow or Tues. Much quicker than doctors.

I have had two misscarriages and two pregnancies and in all I had early bleeding. Try to relax and just do nothing all day, sit on the sofa and watch telly. Is the bleeding filling a pad? Or is it only when you wipe?
Only time will tell if it is a mc or if everything is fine, do you have any other pg symptoms? This pg I was still feeling sick and had tender boobs while bleeding, so still felt pg.

Bleeding is only when I wipe, still have sore boobs and slight nausea but because of previous history of mc don't feel very hopeful, just going to try and relax and hope they see me tomorrow, thanks comments have really helped

So sorry to hear your going through this purple, I can only imagine how worried and anxious you are after all you've already gone through....I had a mmc last year and it was so upsetting then I got pg again about 2 months after that and like you at 7 weeks I had a really bad bleed, it lasted all weekend, I rang the epu that Monday morn resigning myself to the fact I was having another mc, but the scan showed a little heartbeat and that bean was snugly tucked up safe and sound....am now 38 weeks and waiting for little bean (who apparently isn't so little) to arrive....so bleeding doesn't always mean the worst but I know how worrying it is. I really hope that all will be well and your getting yourself checked out. Good luck. Frankly

Unfortunately only time will tell but please try to stay calm ( I know how difficult that it is!!)

I had 3 small bleeding episodes between 6 and 9 weeks. Am now 21 weeks pregnant and have had 3 very active healthy scans and little one is currently tap dancing on what feels like my cervix!!

Purple I had bleeding at 6 weeks and again at 10 weeks - it was brown blood but there was a lot and it went on for a few days each time. It was very worrying at the time but all was well and DD is now 17.

If you still have nausea that is a good sign as it shows the pregnancy hormone is still in your system.

I was told to rest as much as possible - so only do what is essential.

It's a good idea to try and get an appointment with the EPU tomorrow - really hope the time passes quickly for you from now until then.

I bled almost the whole way through my pregnancy. It was usually brown but when red they checked cervix and scanned. Make sure they scan as if there's a heart beat I was told 90% chance of pregnancy bring ok. She's 18 months now and had no probs but she was born at 36 weeks. No idea if linked to bleeding as I was born at same gestation.

Good luck purple I am another one who has had bleeding in both pregnancies and all has been well ( 39 weeks on second pregnancy now)
Appreciate it must be very worrying with history of MC.

Had scan they reckon im more 5/6 weeks, sac looks good she thinks but too early to see anything else so to go bk on 25. Bleeding is coming from a haematoma(sorry if mispelt) not the sac so she says i will still bleed. Feeling slightly more hopeful

Oh I'm so glad that's reassured you :-) It's so hard when you've had a loss previously isn't it (I was the same). It's really good that the scan showed that the sac looks good at this stage and they gave you an explanation for the bleeding. Is your appointment on 25th another scan to check progress? x

If the bleeding is coming from a haemotoma then that means that so far things are OK.

I had a haemotoma with DD who is now 2. Got lots of contradictory advice regarding whether I should rest or continue normal activity but in any case I carried on as normal and walked very long distances on holiday and it was all fine. The haemotoma had been reabsorbed by the end of the first trimester, and by all accounts it had initially been very large.

As far as I know the miscarriage rate for pregnancies with haemotoma is not significantly different to normal pregnancies. The risk of placenta praevia is increased though so they'll keep an eye out towards the end of the pregnancy. I still checked for blood compulsively until DD was born though. It's so hard not to!

I also was only 5 weeks when the bleeding started. Waiting for the second scan was rubbish. Will be thinking of you!

Thanks, I'm going to try and keep busy as its a long wait till till next Tuesday and I don't want to drive myself mad :)
