Persistant UTI

Hi, I'm very new to this but looking for some help.
I'm currently 24 weeks pregnant and have had a water infection since my first booking appointment.
My doctor has just prescribed me my fifth course of antibiotics and I dispair!
I spoke to my midwife about it but she said its best to keep on taking the tablets as a uti can result in early labour.
Just wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience or any advice?
Thank you x

i have had this too, sorry you are going through it. i had it for about 3 weeks with no symptoms, then they kicked in big time. i had at least 3 courses of antibiotics, which then resutled in hideous thrush.

they also caused me to have a lot of braxton hicks as bladder and area so inflamed.

aside from drinking lots of water and trying different antiobiotics, not sure what can be done. i have been taking probiotics and things seem to have calmed down a bit. am on progesterone for the BH (and had a stitch and 14 weeks.)

best of luck and hope you feel better soon.

Hello, I am 29 weeks and have had many UTI's during my pregnancy, never had a single one before in my life! After my fourth course of antibiotics, I was referred to a consultant who has put me on a low dose of antibiotics to take long term, and I must admit it is working and I feel much better. Perhaps have another chat about this to your midwife again or to a different GP? I hope you get sorted and feel better soon :-) x

Thank you so much for your responses. Just knowing it isn't just me helps somehow.
I don't know why but makes me feel like such a failure each time the results come back with an infection still present. I get angry with myself that I can't get my body to do its job to fight it and I'm putting my baby at risk. Stupid I know but I can't help it Hmm xx

What antibiotics are you on? You need a high dose of cephalexin and then once the infection is clear you need to take a daily lose dose to keep it at bay.

Trust me i'm an expert Grin

Thanks for the advice! Iv had caflaxin twice and amoxicillin 3 times all 500mg 7 day courses. I'm on day 3 of my fifth course now x
