Hi

I've been speaking to my Dr who has told me that it could take up to 18 months for the contraceptive injection to come out of my system. Just wanted to ask other women how long it took until they fell pregnant when they were on the contraceptive injection?

It took me 12 months for my periods to re-start, then a further 6 months to fall pregnant. I really wish I had listened to my nurse who told me to finish it before I actually wanted to get pregnant so it would work out of my system before I started trying.

If I could turn back the clock, I would have stopped it a while ago and used a non-chemical alternative (for example condoms) so there was no waiting for anything to work out of my system.

I waited the 2 cycles they recommend after it came out, and got pregnant on the 3rd cycle but miscarried. Waited a month and then conceived twins due in September.

I took 7 weeks for DC 1.

i went back on the injection after he was born and stopped it last August. My periods came back in December (coincided with a drop in Breastfeeding) and I'm still ttc number 2 6 months later.

Just to give you some hope, I got pregnant with dd2 whilst on the injection.
Had a bleed at 9 weeks and was very worried, but it turns out that the bleed coincided with the end of the injection (when I was due to have the next one) so nothing to worry about.

But to put that in perspective, I got pregnant with dd1 on the pill and ds1 whilst a Mirena coil was in situ Hmm

Good luck, it will happen x
