Can I request a stretch & sweep?

I'm 40 weeks tomorrow and have been having strong braxton hicks since Friday. They are also moving into my back so hopefully this means my body is gearing itself up, but they don't seem to be growing in intensity.

I've got my next midwife appointment on Wednesday and want to ask her to do a stretch and sweep while I'm there. I really don't want to have to wait to be induced as the thought of that scares me more than giving birth (although I admit I might have just heard too many horror stories)

Can I request this or do I have to wait until I'm a certain amount of days overdue?

Thanks in advance for any responses Smile

Where I live they offer it once you are 40 weeks, so shouldn't be any issue if you haven't already had the baby by then :)

You can have a sweep from your due date in my area too. Midwives can give you one any earlier than 40 weeks without a consultants say so. The MW will probably offer you one at your 40 wk appointment.

Good luck and hope it works for you - I did for me!

I was offered one this morning at 40 +3, i said no but it's fairly standard for it to be offered at 40.

That's great news, thanks for the responses. I didn't know if they'd just send me away and wait for nature to take its course Smile
