Breastfeeding and TTC?

Just thinking about possibly TTC DC2 later this year but I'm still bf and haven't had a period yet.

Has anyone conceived without having a post birth period whilst bf? If so, how long did it take?

yep!!! i was kinda using bf as a contraceptive.... epic fail. not reliable lol!!
dd is 14m and prob feeds 3-4 times over 24 hours. i did have a bit of a period around 11 ish months but nothing much since. i fell pregnant last month so dd would have been 13m. we only really dtd at weekends so v surprised to fall pregnant lol!!

I'm sure all the health professionals will tell you that 'you can't fall pregnant whilst breastfeeding' is a myth.

I was really pissed off when my period came back 4 months after the birth despite the fact that DD was EBF and I'm still breastfeeding her at 23 months. I'm also 38 weeks pregnant and had no problem whatsoever falling pregnant, took all of two months to do it. I don't know if it has anything to do with having my period back though, so this is probably no help to you whatsoever, sorry!

Thanks for replying. I guess it's the not having a period thing that's my concern i.e. am I still fertile. I'm glad to hear it is possible feekerry even if it took you by surprise (grin)

Sorry posted too soon, i mean i must've ovulated whilst cutting down. So i didn't have a period between my two DDs. DD1 was 18 months, i figured i had to stop bf as there was no sign of my periods coming bsck and we were ready for no.2.

I think i was just doing one bedtime feed when i ovulated. So maybe wait until you are ttc and if your periods haven't returned drop a feed?

You could always try using an ovulation kit to see if you are ovulating yet.

We decided to try sooner then later w ttc second baby bc I was still breastfeeding. I thought it would take longer bc my periods did not turn back to as regular as they used to be. And bam, one try and we were pregnant. I am 5 months now. Woo hoo. I def wouldn't use breastfeeding as contraceptive! The first thing midwives told me when discussing contraceptives is that breastfeeding doesn't usually prevent it.
