i'm nearly 9 weeks and so far most of my cropped summer trousers do not fit or they do up but are rather tight. I thought i had a few more weeks yet before i had to worry about getting bigger clothes. My lovely summer tops i bought end of last summer just look yuck...i'm not used to this..i'm a size 10/12 and have been all my life. The dilemma is i don't want to buy loads of new summer stuff as our weather is a bit hit and miss...i just having a bad day i suppose and nothing looks right.
I'm so so happy to be pregnant but this is the hard part because at this stage you just look fat and only a handful of people know so don't want anyone guessing yet either...am i the only one?? i didn't think i would grow out of some of my clothes until at least 4 months xx

Could just be water retention, I had that at that point. By twelve weeks I had lost out and worried about that! Now four months and my trousers are getting tight! I would wait a few weeks if I was you before a big spend. When you do want maternity clothes try ebay and friends first unless you are flush for cash!

I had to move to pg clothes at 8 weeks, so you are not alone.

Now at 23 weeks I am bored of people making jokes about whether it is twins or insinuating that I'm just eating too much. It's just the way things are, and no one would speak like that to me if not pg...

I bought a pair of trousers that were maternity but didn't look it for that stage, and used longer tops/baggy tops for a few weeks. Then after I declared I mostly wore what I wanted. I stopped just looking horribly fat and started having a definite pregnancy shape at about week 18. Now I have a bump that I'm regularly told looks more like 7 months. Cheers everyone!

I think those lucky enough not to grow much in pregnancy can find it hard to believe that it can just happen but it can. I'm not saying I am not eating or that I am not carrying any extra weight (a lot of my bump I think is spare tyre from pre-preg, which has been strangely shifted upwards), but I think I'd have had to gone on a starvation diet to affect anything significantly once I got pregnant, and that's not good for a baby either. I looked pretty enormous at the end of my last pregnancy - like a ship sailing into view - but baby was normal size and I was back in usual clothes (size 12) 4-6 weeks later, and back at pre-preg weight 4 months later. (Hurrah for breastfeeding...)

I was shocked when I had to buy maternity jeans at 7 weeks and my sister laughed and gave it the 'god I didn't buy any till I was about 16 weeks' Admittedly I was a size 14/16 when I fell pg so had extra weight (had lost 2 stone though Grin) however we then found out at my 12 week scan the we're having twins Grin that soon shut everyone up. I now look about 25 weeks (I think) but am only 16weeks tomorrow. I've put on about 9lbs as well and don't know if this is too much or not Confused but other than the mat jeans and one maxi dress I bought (only got it because it was in the sale for £5 so thought silly not to) I am still in pre pg leggings and vest tops.

Everyone is different so don't worry too much Smile

i'm 12 weeks and have just treated myself to a maternity dress from h&m. Have to wait till next payday in 2 weeks to buy any other stuff but NONE of my clothes fit me. I'm living in pyjamas at home and a skirt with an elastic waistband when I go outside. It sucks just looking at all the clothes I can no longer fit into.

cravingcake · 07/06/2013 17:44

It gets worse second time around! I'm only 6 weeks in and already my maternity jeans have come out. My tummy is just so extremely bloated that nothing is comfortable around my middle makes me want to vomit

I also have just invested in a new maxi dress for this summer, put a little cardy over for cooler days (and leggings underneath in winter if necessary).

The jeans I have are 'under bump' and stretchy slim fit so I've just rolled them up for 3/4 length while its warm and once we get into winter I'll roll them down and wear with boots/trainers.

ipswichwitch · 07/06/2013 17:49

I'm 12 weeks an none of my jeans fit. Most of my dresses make me look like I'm 40 weeks and I just look randomly fat in everything else. Even more depressing when most of my friends talk about how they never had a hint of a bump til 20 weeks plus. I've not had my scan yet so very few people know but a large number suspect I'm pregnant judging by how many keep staring at my rapidly expanding belly.

I'm embarrassed to say I had a bit of a tantrum at DP yesterday about how I look crap in everything, nothing fits an everyone thinks I'm fat!! Got a christening next weekend and have no idea what to wear either.

bubbatime · 07/06/2013 17:57

Im 8 weeks. Hoping to make the most of my maxi dresses over the summer as they have plenty of extra tummy space...

blondebaby111 · 07/06/2013 22:26

Thanx for comments everyone, glad I'm not alone! I think its worse on nice summer days, you have to think so much more what to wear where if it was cooler just leggings and a top would be fine xx

I bought some high waisted maxi dresses that are loose enough to go over the bump but I'm hoping will still be wearable afterwards. Now 30+6 and still working well. Good luck!

WandaDoff · 08/06/2013 00:11

I found a hair band threaded through the buttonhole & around the button on jeans & trousers gave me a couple of extra weeks growing room.

You have to wear a top long enough to hide it though obviously.

RJM17 · 08/06/2013 00:15

I am 17 weeks

RJM17 · 08/06/2013 00:17

Sorry posted too early...
I am 17 weeks on Monday and I am huge! Even went the docs cos I was worried and they said even tho my baby is measuring the right size my womb is measuring bigger and is same size as expected at 20 weeks and quite high up so I have a full on bump!! Not great when my friend is 24 weeks and looks a lot smaller than me!!
It is very depressing as I had to start wearing maternity stuff at 14 weeks xx

notspringchicken · 08/06/2013 11:27

Am six weeks with my first baby and already struggling to fasten my jeans! I wanted to keep things quiet until 12 weeks but I'm certain people will have guess soon! Is this normal pregnancy weight or does this mean I'm just gaining fat?

mrspaddy · 08/06/2013 11:31

Hello blondeb.. I went into maternity clothes early but then hardly got bigger for ages again.. only had a spurt again recently and six months gone. If I could give you advice.. go to New Look.. they have navy linen trousers.. really, really comfy and adjustable band inside. So cheap too - I might get a second pair for lounging around the house they are great too.
Maxi dresses are your best friend too.. you can always wear a cardi on cooler days. Don't worry about getting bigger - healthy sign and good that baby is growing. Congrats Flowers

Mouserama · 12/06/2013 22:53

I was really bloated up until about 13 weeks. Didn't really pit on any weight, but all my trousers were tight. I resorted to the 'hairband on the jeans button' and the maternity bands which were a godsend until I went into proper maternity clothes at about 18 weeks
