Doc didn't tell me I had an infection

Two weeks ago I gave a urine sample to my doctor at one of my antenatal appointments. It showed positive for nitrates but she thought it may have been contamination from the container so was going to send to lab and said I would be contacted if there was an infection. Said no news is good news.

I phoned today to double check results. Doctor says they got results back a week ago but no one had looked at them and I do have an infection. Prescribed antibiotics.

I'm a bit worried as this isn't the first time this has happened. It cleared up the first time but again no one had told me I had an infection. Is that not quite important in pregnancy...

Wow that is rubbish. I'd complain - and maybe change GP.
Hope you're feeling ok.

That is awful. Defo complain! And yes infections during pregnancy are serious. If they aren't nipped in the bud quickly they can cause all sorts of complications to Mother and baby. Hope it clears up soon!

I've changed GP for less serious things than thane finitely complain if nothing else.

That does sound rubbish & I'd consider complaining.

... although when it comes to health related things I don't go with a 'no news is good news' even if told that is the policy & as a default phone myself to confirm results have been received (because sometimes a result will go astray - so it may be abnormal but no one knows that it is not good news!) and are ok.

Thanks for the responses all. I had finally found a doctor I liked as well! Very annoying. I don't have much luck with doctors. I had abdominal pains 2 years back and kept getting fobbed off with painkillers until I got very irate and demanded something actually be done. They gave me a scan, nothing found but it allowed is then to look at other options. Turned out it was a core muscles problem. I was glad to have peace of mind though. So I stayed with that surgery but changed doctor.

I think it's probably a problem with the procedure rather than the doctor herself, I'm going to speak to her though and say I'm quite concerned that no one had got back to me.

As suggested, from now on I'm going to phone in for all results to double check them. I'm prone to infections so I was surprised at the lack of them during pregnancy.

I went to my mw thinking I had an infection, got swabbed and heard nothing.
Eventually 2 weeks later I called to check and it was group b strep! Kind of important to know when pregnant!

I also think that's really bad. You should complain, maybe it will help avoiding this sort of thing happening again...

I hope you are feeling better soon
