Pregnant on a very very very long cycle

Hi,

I am thrilled to say that I have had 2 BFP's this morning (hooray!!) however this is on cycle day 81!!!

I chart and I think I ovulated on day 68 so about 2 weeks ago which would be right (digital test says 1-2 weeks)

I was just wondering if anyone knows if there are higher risks of miscarriage with a long cycle? I conceived my son when I ov'd on CD17 and he is now a happy healthy 23 month old but CD68 is a whole new ball park!

I wonder how much luck I am going to have convincing the doctors that I know I am only just pregnant and not ready for my 12 week scan!!

Any thoughts or stories would be greatly appreciated x

Hello and CONGRATULATIONS!!!

I have PCOS and had this very problem due to irregular cycle lengths (112 was the longest!). Make an appointment to see you midwife or doctor (who ever your practice make you see first) and explain it to them. They could well send you for a dating scan to establish your due date which they do by taking measurements and looking at the development of the baby.

Thank you and thanks for your reply. I must admit is is quite nice to think I may be able to have a scan early as the 12 week wait is a killer!

I was just not sure if really long cycles have more risk of miscarriage?

I think that depends what is causing the variability in cycle length so it might not be possible to know if you don't know what your underlaying condition is. It's something to talk to your MW about as they should be able to give you some guidance. Also have a look on the fertility boards as I seem to recall reading something about increase thickness of womb lining due to longer cycles and miscarriage risk but i can't remember which way it went.

My cycles were usually 63/64 days and nobody has ever mentioned this having an effect on the risk of misscarriage? Though I suppose mw might have preferred not to say if that was the case but if you're worried mention it to mw at your booking apt. As above could be more down to the reason for the long cycle?

Kitkatinatin · 04/06/2013 19:28

my cycles ranged massively. I conceived on very long cycle... no-one mentioned higher risk, but then no-one ever gave me a reason for super ranging cycles (anything from 18-70 days!) despite several tests etc. Anyway, I enjoyed getting a scan at 9 weeks and seeing a heartbeat rather than waiting until 12! They just booked me in for another one 3 weeks later for the 12 weeks.

It was a while ago but i think I ov'd around day 30. DD is now 4 hth xx

I am sorry to be depressing but I conceived during a weird 56-day cycle (was never particularly regular but cycles tended to be more like 30 - 34 days) and it resulted in a mmc. However, I have always put it down to ropey sperm as DH had been away for nearly a week when I ovulated. Have never heard of cycle lengths being a factor. All the very best for this one x

Thank you everyone. I am a great believer in what is meant to be will be, so we will wait and see.

I have had really irregular cycles since coming off of the pill but bloods have always come back fine and a scan before my pregnancy with my son showed normal overies so who knows why!

Thanks again for your responses x

hi, i conceived on a long cycle - well my original due date was about 4 weeks earlier than the one determined by the scan - and i knew hadn't been pregnant that long.
DS is now nearly 7.

C1982 · 04/06/2013 21:49

I had a 6 wk cycle but I wouldn't bother with an early scan as they will only ak you to go back when they realise by measuring it that you're only a few weeks, I would just explain you where on a long cycle , I'm 30 weeks now so I wouldn't worry

OrangeLily · 05/06/2013 00:10

Awh this post made me smile Grin We are TTC and my cycles average out about 50 something days but that's just an average between lots of crazy numbers! Hope for me yet then.

I wish you a very healthy pregnancy.

Danilou22 · 05/06/2013 06:54

Thank you. Good luck to you OrangeLily (and anyone else trying)

Keep trying.

Both times I have been pregnant (now and with my 23 month old son) it has been through charting my temps so I know where I am am and the most vital thing and sorry if tmi but checking what is going on down there if you get what I mean Blush as soon as I have seen the really fertile stuff we have tried and the day after I have had a temperature dip and then the rise after ovulation.

Now I have just got to get on with it and what will be will be. Typically I seem to get pregnant when I have already put some weight on! I try and try to loose it to get pregnant and then as soon as I have a couple of bad weeks ....

Just thought I would update you all on this thread.

Because of my very long cycle i must have released 2 eggs when I ovulated and my scan yesterday showed that I am actually having twins!!!

We are still in shock but are sure we will be able to cope (even with a 2 and a half year old as well!!)

Hope you are all doing well xx
