I've just wiped when I went to the loo (sorry if tmi) and there was pinky/red streaks in it. Enough blood to turn it pink.

So its not brown blood (which apparently is a good sign) its fresh blood. I'm terrified. Please someone tell me a good outcome after experiencing this. I've had 2 previous pregnancies and never had any blood.

so worried. MW told me to take it easy and wait....!!!!

I bled heavy red blood from 12 weeks to 20 weeks with my now 7YO DD.

MW kept saying to look out for clots. There are so many reasons why you might be bleeding. If you have an EPU near you it might be worth a visit but I was also advised just to take it easy. x

Hopingforno2 · 04/06/2013 16:03

I had red and pinky streaks and cm from weeks 9-32 and my dd is almost 9 weeks now like you i had never bled in pregnancy before (have a ds also) i had to be checked everytime as im rh neg and had to get blood tests and anti d after 14 weeks. If your hospital has an epu ring them and ask if they can see you, is your 12 week scan soon?

mumoftwoboysS · 04/06/2013 19:26

thanks for the replies. My 12 week scan is in 2 weeks (even though I'm already 11+5 and it seems like such a long time away. Going to call tomorow to try and get it moved to next week. MW wasn't that reassuring - thank god for Mumsnet!

I had similar at around 8 weeks, doctor said it is not uncommon at around the time a period would have been due if you weren't pregnant.

That baby is now sitting his GCSEs!

AmberLeaf · 04/06/2013 19:31

Thinking about it, it also happened with my second son at about 6 weeksish? was a lot more blood, I saw my GP, was refered to early pregnancy unit for a scan, all was well. he is 13 now.

mumoftwoboysS · 04/06/2013 19:56

thanks Amber I have heard of that actually -called breakthrough bleeding I think? I'll have a look at my dates to see if it coincides with that.

Can you ring your local Early Pregnancy Unit tomorrow morning and self refer? You shouldn't have to wait until next week for a scan if you are bleeding.

Fingers crossed for you I know how stressful it can be. I had 2 heavy bleeds in the first trimester of this pregnancy but all seems to be fine now.

LouiseD29 · 04/06/2013 22:39

I had blood on and off until about 16 weeks. Sometimes with cramping, always fairly light, usually pink. Am now 30+3. Definitely a good idea to speak to midwife and get yourself checked out if you're anxious - but just wanted to you know that it can happen and not be anything bad. Midwife never offered any explanation for mine, just said, 'Oh it all sounds normal' but I have decided to blame fibroid and low lying placenta. Good luck and try not to stress.

Hopingforno2 · 04/06/2013 23:59

2 weeks is a long time to be stressing, if you have an epu they should be able to organise a scan for you [ thanks]

Futterby · 05/06/2013 00:15

I had blood at six weeks. Currently 14+3 and feeling my little peanut flutter away in there :) best of luck to you!

Futterby · 05/06/2013 00:19

And when I was at my EPU the midwife was awful too. She told me "BLEEDING DURING PREGNANCY IS NOT NORMAL AT ALL AND YOU'LL MOST LIKELY MISCARRY" which is utter bullshit (I'm a nursing student) but it really scared me at the time. Bleeding during early pregnancy is really common, so try not to worry. Easier said than done, I know.

Sodabread · 05/06/2013 01:29

I also bled in the first trimester, at 7 weeks, 10 weeks and 14 weeks. The first bleed was bright red and not small, although not painful. All was fine in the end, currently trying to get my five month old to sleep!! But it was all very stressful at the time and I had many trips to the epu, although they weren't able to tell me why it was happening either. Hope it works out well.

shushpenfold · 05/06/2013 01:50

Have had 3 mcs but also bled at 7 weeks with ds and at 11 weeks with dd2........both are now entirely large walking opinionated things! Not necessarily a bad sign. xx

jesswhite25 · 05/06/2013 09:19

Definitely call your early pregnancy unit at hospital because they should get you in for a scan to check with 24-48 hours in my experience. Good luck xx

mumoftwoboysS · 05/06/2013 19:43

thanks for the reassurance everyone! Well called the hospital and they (rudely) told me that I cannot have my scan brought forward. So I went to the doctor (my mw only works 1 day a week and doesn't answer her phone any other day?!!) Doc was sympathetic but also said no point in calling the hospital as they won't give a scan for just a bit of blood! So best she could offer was a blood test to check HCG levels to make sure baby growing accordingly (and rule out missed mc) hopefuly all will turn out ok like many of yours!

Smilehappy · 05/06/2013 20:25

I had the same at 15 weeks I was distraught but all was ok I'm now 18.5 weeks! Try and keep calm, relax, this is fairly normal EPU weren't sympathetic with me and told me I was too early to go in as there's nothing they can do.

Good luck I'm sure everything will be fine SmileThanksThanks

Futterby · 05/06/2013 20:46

That's awful! I had a scan twelve hours after arriving at a&e with bleeding. Keep everything crossed and try not to worry :) Flowers

Jollyb · 05/06/2013 21:37

I'm really surprised . I've bled in 3 pregnancies and have always been able to get a scan within 48 hours. Do you know who you spoke to at the hospital - was is the ultrasound booking clerk or did you speak to anyone from your Early Pregnancy Unit?

Is your GP sending you for a second blood test? You won't be able to tell much about the viability of the pregnancy from one test.

I feel quite frustrated for you. 2 weeks is a long time to wait. The chances are that all will be fine but it's not nice being in limbo.

Hopingforno2 · 05/06/2013 21:55

Im really suprised too! I was scanned at 5w 6days (thougt i was 6 weeks) then again the following week again after more blood at 9 weeks tho i was under consultant care due to being diabetic when i went in on a weekend at 14 weeks they scanned me with a portable scanner and later always listened in to heartbeat!

mumoftwoboysS · 06/06/2013 10:30

Hi Jollyb why do you say that they won't be able to tell from one blood test? The doctor said they will be able to tell what the HCG levels are and thus work out that the baby is progressing as normal (at least ruling out a missed miscarriage as it will tell how many weeks along I am)

I trust that the blood test is pretty accurate so am slightly reassured by that.

I spoke to whoever answers the phone at the scanning area of the hospital! Not sure who. Well short of shouting at the doctor I couldn't seem to persuade her to even try and call them, and she said they wouldn't change the scan anyway. Seems I'm up against too many obstacles- glad you lot were able to get a scan, seems impossible where I am for some reason...

OP posts:
AmberLeaf · 06/06/2013 12:00

I think the second blood test is to see if HCG levels are decreasing?

How are you now? has there been any more blood?

mumoftwoboysS · 06/06/2013 17:18

oh I see Amber - she didn't mention another test.

no more blood for now thanks for asking. Fingers crossed it stays that way! Might call the doctor now on the off chance she has the results as the nurse who took the blood test said it'd be ready by the end of the day.....

Jollyb · 06/06/2013 18:38

Hi mum there is a wide variation in HCG levels between pregnancies and so a single level won't be that helpful. You can't accurately date based on bhcg level - though I suppose if it was really low though it might suggest that all is not well

As Amber said what is more important is whether it is rising or falling. In the early days of pregnancy your Bhcg is meant to double every 48 -72 hours but I think the rise slows towards the end of the first trimester.

Fingers crossed that everything is ok for you- as I said in a previous post I've had 2 big bleeds in this pregnancy and am now 33 weeks.

If you have any more bleeding please contact your local EPU

I have been bleeding since tuesday night, and having bad cramps. i went to a&e and they booked me in with the early pregnancy unit to have a scan and check up the next day! i was 11 weeks 3 days on the day of the scan! they said it's my body trying to have a period and it is so common and normal! go and get it checked out and i hope everything is okay! xx

AmberLeaf · 06/06/2013 21:16

cinnieetaylor18, that fits my experience of that sort of early bleeding too. seems it is fairly common then.

OP, good to hear the bleeding has stopped. fingers crossed for you.

Did you manage to get the results?
