Hi all, I am scheduled for a cvs today following an NT (which was fine) and bloods (apparently well off the chart, but don't know the exact numbers). The DS risk given was 1:33. I elected to go for cvs, I'd rather know sooner than later, but I am now freaking out and am no longer sure. Has anyone had it and all was fine afterwards? Are there known long-term effects on the baby? I need reassurance, all comments most welcome ... xxx

I had CVS nearly 3 weeks ago now after screening results came back at 1:45. I didn't find it painful as the give you a local anaesthetic, it just feels a bit weird like pushing and pulling in your stomach.

Afterwards I had a bit of cramp and stomach ache, a bit like period pains/ muscle ache after vaccinations but was fine with a couple of paracetamol. I had the next day off work and DP waited on me hand and foot Smile.

The whole procedure is done with ultrasound monitoring and apparently being able to see baby's heartbeat straight after means the risk of miscarriage is already greatly reduced.

I'm sure you will have had all the details from the midwfe, the one we saw was very good and objective at explaining all the options. I hope it goes well and you get your results quickly - I think the waiting is the worst part. Good luck, let us know how you get on. X

Just realised you will have had it now. Hope you are resting up and not too uncomfortable. I think my situation was similar to yours, NT fine but bloods shot my risk up, Fortunately my first results were clear. X

Hi NovemberAli, thanks so much for your comforting response. I did have it today. I didn't find it completely awful, however I was a nervous wreck all day and at 3.30am still can't sleep with worry...

Your response is giving me courage. Congrats on your results and best of luck with the rest of your pregnancy, which I hope you will get to enjoy even more now.

Xxx
