Early Labor Signs?

For the past three days i have been getting bad back pain that has came and gone throughout the day. Just this morning i have had consistent aching/heavy feeling in my lower back quite similar to when you have your period, which has been changing in intensity from a dull pain to a sharp tightening only last a few seconds. I'm 38 weeks Pregnant and have had no other main symptoms of showing early labor. Could this be the start?, Anybody else had similar early symptoms of labor?
Thanks, Scared first time mum.

I feel for you, I didn't experience this but if your scared then ring your midwife and I'm sure she will give you good advice.

I am also a scared first time mum and this exact thing is happening to me! I am 38 weeks +3days and I found out on weds I am fully engaged, Wednesday night I started nesting ALOT and when I stopped I started to feel sick, after a night of vomiting, bad tummy and strong Braxton hicks I felt I must be in labour, now this is a regular occurrence but still no real labour. I get terrible period pains, very strong Braxton hicks and awful back pain but just nothing happens! I keep thinking "this is it! It's happening" then everything slowly stops Confused . Good luck!

Sorry you are feeling scared. It is all such an unknown, so it is natural to feel like that.

With DS I had similar for a few weeks before going into labour at 40 weeks. What I would say is that I knew I was in labour once I was. However, looking back I could note some very strong periody pains in the evening prior to my waters breaking at 1 am.

It is probably just your body getting ready. I am now on DC2 and have experienced lots of friends giving birth. Most seem to go to around term. Not a scientific sample I know, but I am not sure how common early labour is.

As with any thread on here, if you are concerned talk to your midwife/the hospital.

Good luck. Hopefully you'll meet your DC soon...
