Just found out I'm pregnant & gardened without gloves today - worrying about toxoplasmosis

I am feeling really stupid at the moment. I found out I was pregnant on Friday and today I was repotting various plants - emptying out old pots and planting plants in the pots using compost (which had been stored in the shed). I didn't wear any gloves and it wasn't until I was finishing off that I suddenly remembered you're not supposed to do that when pregnant. The compost was very dry so I'm also worrying I could have inhaled it.

I washed my hands numerous times afterwards and cleaning and trimmed my nails as much as possible. But my cuticles are quite cracked and now I just can't stop worrying. By way of background I've had 3 miscarriages in the past so I'm probably more paranoid than most people. It's just the plants were on my list of thins to do and I didn't think about the risks to pregnancy.

Have I put the pregnancy at risk? And what should I do about it?? Can anyone reassure me!

The risks of this are quite low, and with your history it is understandable to be concerned.

I'd put it out of my mind and put my feet up.

The risks are much greater if you are using soil which has been used by cats as a toilet. Or litter trays.

I think if you are using compost then I wouldn't be concerned at all - just have a nice cup of tea, and try to relax as much as possible. It's always a worrying time (have been there myself), but the vast, vast majority of miscarriages are NOT caused by anything mum did or didn't do...

Good luck with the pregnancy Flowers

Thank you for your replies I really appreciate it. I know that logically the risks are low and as far as I know cats don't use the pots as a toilet. But when my 1st mc was discovered at the 12 wk scan the sonographer said maybe it was an infection. I'm normally not totally paranoid but just had a bit of a panic as feel like if something bad is going to happen it will happen to me! Anyway, thank you for telling me its not a big deal - it does make me feel better!!
