BlackholesAndRevelations · 11/06/2013 22:33

Again I know it's not that important but just thought I'd mention it! Sorry if spoken out of turn.

To whoever asked about my local kiddicare (so sorry- was it IBIP?! Blush) it's Southampton!

BlackholesAndRevelations · 11/06/2013 22:37

Ps my first lost baby was due around end of august- wouldn't have planned it that way but was obviously over the moon to be expecting a baby, date irrelevant. Wasn't meant to be though obviously. People have said a Christmas birthday is rubbish but a baby born any time is a blessing xx

andadietcoke · 11/06/2013 22:50

Heehee blackholes you have no idea how many times we've talked about this. My mum and DH are teachers as are lots of our friends. Apparently a September girl is developmentally 18 months ahead of an August boy when they start school. On the other side you've got a year less of childcare (for two babies) if they have August birthdays.

At the end of the day I will do exactly what the consultant recommends whether that's a natural birth, csection, early induction or not, and the date won't come into it. I'm trying to accept that they know best, and they won't put me and the babies at risk, so whatever they recommend is what I'll go for even though a csection scares me a lot less

BlackholesAndRevelations · 11/06/2013 23:06

Haha! Good I'm glad I'm not the only one! Grin

What's your official due date? Of course you'd go with whatever is safest for all of you, no one would expect anything else. Just thought, if you're offered a c section on say the 30th aug or 1st sept (like that'd even happen!?) go for the sept! We're lucky our DS is sept. Boys should start formal school even later than they do, IMO. Girls, on the whole, seem better able to cope.

Your girls will do brilliantly whatever their birth date, anyway! Smile

jmf294 · 12/06/2013 09:58

I have a late August boy who is now in year 1. He's a lot smaller than lots of his classmates but as his teacher said you can't keep saying he's young, he's expected to keep up with his class.
He's 5 but doing really well at a school with a reading age of around 8-9, plays the violin and loves rugby, cricket and swimming.
The advantage of an August baby is one less year of nursery fees, unless you chose to send them to private school- ouch!!!

I'm concerned that my bump is not growing, my tummy is big but it's all fat. Can't help but worry!!
Hope you are all ok.

IBelieveInPink · 12/06/2013 10:13

Jmf - I was also worried about not growing! However I am wearing a tshirt today that fit 3 weeks ago, and today it doesn't...Have to wear it though as is my Bon Jovi tshirt and im off to see bon jovi this evening!
Have still only put on about 3 pounds though. Just hope baby is doing okay in there!!

stitchinline · 12/06/2013 10:15

so pleased for the good scan choc

lots of other happy news on the thread too which is nice.

I used a moses basket for dd until she was about 3 months and was starting to roll, we then used a mini crib which was between the size of a crib and a cot until she was 9 months - we were in a one bedroom flat and couldn't fit a proper cot in our room. Then we moved and she went into a normal size cot. It worked for us although the last month or so we were on the couch while she had the bedroom to herself.... Hmm

My second last day at work today - eeek - after that it's major organisation mode to get ready for the move. In some ways it's been good as haven't been able to dwell too much on worrying about the upcoming scan.

BlackholesAndRevelations · 12/06/2013 10:24

There are obviously exceptions jmf- I was generalising. No one in my year 1 class has a reading age of 8/9 so he's obviously doing very well.

BlackholesAndRevelations · 12/06/2013 10:28

I have a late august boy in my class who has gone from bottom groups throughout foundation stage, to middle at this stage in year 1, with potential to climb higher in year 2. He reads well but his comprehension is lower because if his maturity. He'll get there, though! He obviously didn't show his potential a year ago as he is so young.

God why am I talking shop??! So sorry!!

andadietcoke · 12/06/2013 12:12

jmf that's really reassuring - thanks. Of course, my PFBs are going to be super smart anyway. I might send them at 3 as they'll be so keen to get cracking Wink

I was 'gifted and talented'. DH used to play professional rugby. We think they'll get his brains and my sporting ability and be completely normal (in fact, normal intelligence and a bit crap at sport tbh) Grin

WillSantaComeAgain · 12/06/2013 12:47

People say that a christmas baby is rubbish? Shock - well, I'm screwed then, two Christmas babies?!? To be fair, its not ideal. We're planning on celebrating both birthdays in the summer if this one works out, because its really hard thinking of what to double up on for presents/ financially crippling /shit for them when they're older if we celebrate at Christmas. I am not quite sure how it will work - i.e. what date to pick in the summer or how to actually celebrate (presents is easy, but what about cards? Cakes? oh the traumas)

So, which one of you evil ladies has bought out the last of the stock of the sale dress on M&P that I had my eye on?

Really struggling for clothes still. I cannot wait to break into my maternity wardrobe, but I refuse on prinicple to do that till after the scan. I do have some clothes that fit and look quite nice/flattering, but only if you're officially pregnant IYSWIM - ie. ones that would definitely out me. Got a meeting with a close friend/colleague tomorrow who I haven't seen in 2 weeks. Its going to be soooooo obvious, I'm tempted to confess.

shellsocks · 12/06/2013 13:32

Blackholes is it a Sep or Aug birthday that means you get longer with your DC before they have to go to school? If I had a choice I would pick that - keep them as my baby for as long as possible Smile Sod the academics Wink it works itself out once their in big school it's probably irrelevant?!

And I love Xmas birthdays, both me and DH (Xmas day!) do...everyone is in a boss mood and loads of parties goin on, it's fab Grin

jmf bump size is totally irrelevant to baby size so don't worry abt that Smile

Wow good luck with the move stitch must seem like you have soooo much to do Grin

Baby is moving loads now, all squirmy it's brill...although seems to be at night (had a few late nights lately) so thinking this one might be a night owl and keep me up once movements are strong...DS was fab and slept when I did, even for the first few months after he was born...not so good once he reached 7 months Confused

GaryBuseysTeeth · 12/06/2013 14:17

I have a Christmas (week) baby & this one is due early August, my poor kids Grin
It's a bit rubbish having a Christmas-ish baby (it does take away from the excitement of both occasions a little), but that's not something DS should care about when he's an adult.
One of my sisters is a Valentines Day baby & she never goes for a meal out on her birthday!

Good luck with everything stitch, hope the weather remains rubbish, moving whilst pregnant in sticky summer heat sounds like hard work!

Crave have some nice evening/posh frock dresses, and 20% off an order over £85 chocolate.

My bump has moved again so I can fit back into clothes that didn't fit me last week!
I'm booking a private scan for 35-39wks (want to check cord position, and MIL has never seen a scan), if you were me...would you book it as close to due date as possible? Or earlier?

GardenWorm · 12/06/2013 16:07

Hi peeps!

Gary don't scans get less picturesque (ha ha!) the further on you are as in it's more difficult to see baby because they are so big? I had an extra growth scan at 30 something weeks with DD and couldn't really make that much out as she was too big. I suppose if you want to check the cord though then later? Although you may pop prior to the scan anyway!

Pink I am sorry but I must confess to chuckling at Bon Jovi, I love your random taste in music, aren't you going to see 5ive? Or have I got you confused? Grin

BumpKitty · 12/06/2013 18:53

Ha, people are soooo opinionated on Christmas babies! DD is dec 18th, I was in the operating theatre being stitched up after the birth and one of the doctors was telling me to make sure I never wrapped her birthday presents in Christmas paper! He was a Christmas baby and it had obviously had a big effect on him!
I don't plan on doing the summer birthday thing for her but I have just bought her a really big present to have now as otherwise she has to wait till dec each year.
I think I have been having movements again but the baby must have moved as they feel different to before. I did a good turning from side to side thing in the bath which resulted in a few good wriggles :)
I got some clothes from Next today which I think will be going back as they are very clingy! Also had a look in H&M but it was rubbish :( maybe ill just get some sack cloth :)

BlackholesAndRevelations · 12/06/2013 19:02

Just quickly- you could celebrate a Christmas baby's half birthday, so if born on 25th December (when mine is due!) could celebrate on June 25th Grin

BlackholesAndRevelations · 12/06/2013 20:56

shell- a September baby means more time with them before they start school, as they'll be nearer to five than four when they start.

My DD is January so she sometimes gets presents left over from Xmas on her bday as her paternal grandparents spoil her rotten. In fact there are a couple of toys that we held back to give her this summer!! Imagine it'll be a busy few weeks in our house for birthdays and Christmas!

The wrapping paper thing: I have a friend whose bday is 20th December and she HATED getting joint Xmas and bday pressies, as well as bday pressies wrapped in Christmas paper! Must remember that!

DIYandEatCake · 12/06/2013 21:07

Hi again everyone, and congrats on your scan chocolate! So good to have a nice happy quiet time for everyone on here, long may it continue. Good luck with the move stitch. Nowt much happening here, 14 weeks, eek! Time's going a bit faster now. I have my booking appt with the midwife on Friday - think the midwives are a bit busy, but also my fault a bit for not referring myself to them til 8 weeks... It's just form filling though and we were always going to opt out of the downs screening so not too disappointed, though will be nice to be 'officially' in the system. (chocolate in case you're wondering about the scan the midwife did leave some blank notes at the gp's for me... Hospital were a bit Hmm).

Bought some new clothes today too, not maternity ones but ones I think will last most of the way through. A stretchy waisted knee length skirt and floaty blouse from h&m (my maternity clothes from last time are all wooly ones as dd was born at the end of march). The bump is starting to be noticeable though I'm still wearing my old jeans today. Ooh, and if anyone else is looking for jeans, I ordered some black bootcut under bump in the new look sale for £8! Hope they fit.

pumpkinsweetie · 13/06/2013 07:50

Waiting for my 12wk scan, very nervous and needing a pee so bad!
Got here extra early, so hoping they see me early fx for me!

IBelieveInPink · 13/06/2013 08:05
