JanieLovesLuckySocks · 03/06/2013 22:06

Oh and I got pg on the second cycle afterwards and that was the first cycle we'd TTC x

Mummytothearkbuilder · 03/06/2013 22:07

Thanks pink - my cycles have always been irregular and strangely the miscarriage seemed to regulate them - although we did conceive again on the 2nd cycle.

I honestly don't think I can face being pregnant again - I am sure that will pass and one day we will be ready to TTC again - the sonographer said that my chances of miscarriage is higher now I have had 2 in a row :-( seems cruel they won't look into it after 2 - mine have occurred at exactly the same point - heartbeat never formed in either of them but they just called it bad luck :-( xx

IBelieveInPink · 03/06/2013 22:19

Oh mummy I felt the same. I had 2 in a row. Not quite the same - one got to 8 weeks but stopped growing at 5, (that was the erpc one) the next miscarried naturally at 5 weeks. In my head this meant it stopped at the same point, but try wouldn't investigate. I guess I see why now, as this one 'seems' to be working out. But at the time I was so angry at how unfair it was. (for reference, both times I got pg again on second cycle after mc)
And it was a bit mean of her to say that about the chances. Chances of another are only marginally worse, so don't focus on that too much.
I'm sorry you are going through this again. Please ask if there is anything else I can help with x

pumpkinsweetie · 03/06/2013 22:41

Thinking of you mummy so sadSad Sorry for your loss xx

BlackholesAndRevelations · 03/06/2013 22:41

Oh mummy I'm so very, very sorry for you Sad what terrible news.

I'm Angry with that sonographer for saying that to you! Surely it can't be true and even if it is, way to kick a person when they're down!! Fuming. I had two in a row as you know and this one (touch wood) looks ok so far.

Look after yourself and give yourself plenty of time to recover physically and emotionally. Lots of love to you Flowers

Vixjane · 03/06/2013 22:45

So sorry to hear your news mummy. Look after yourself and take whatever time you need.

I've had 2mc and was told by my doc that it doesn't increase your chances of mc the third time. This is why they don't generally consider investigations until 3mc. Please ignore the idiot sonographer. X x

shellsocks · 03/06/2013 22:56

I'm so sorry mummy hope you get thru this time as painlessly as possible x

I waited for nature with my MMC and I would advise against, very painful and emotionally awful too...would recommend the operation to anyone.

Also it's rubbish abt the two MC, it only effects things marginally and when you are up to thinking positively again try and think that the chances are high that this is just very bad luck Hmm Totally understand the way you are feeling tonight tho, hope you and your DP are looking after each other x

Mummytothearkbuilder · 03/06/2013 23:02

Thank you ladies - it's so encouraging to know there are people who have had 2 and then a positive outcome - it really helps give me hope that we will have another baby in the future.

I'm going to phone the EPU tomorrow to discuss the surgical option xx

BumpKitty · 03/06/2013 23:04

mummy please don't trust in the sonographer - what a heartless thing to say to you at that moment in time and completely contradicts them then saying it was bad luck!
To answer about the ERPC my period came back after 3 weeks, I did wait 4 weeks before the ERPC though to see if mc would happen naturally so that might be why they came back so quickly.

GaryBuseysTeeth · 03/06/2013 23:26

mummy, I am so sorry for your loss. Hope everything goes as well as can do for the ERPC (if you decide to go for it), and you recover as well as can be physically & emotionally.
Best of luck to you for when/if you decide to TTC again, and here for you in the meantime x

IBIP, I've suddenly had nausea come on in the last few weeks, it's been quite bad the last few days (haven't left the house) so you're not alone!

anda, hope you're feeling ok post GTT, from what I've read it's not fun!

Fab news Shell!

Re. weight gain, I've put on 26lbs or 11kg (in 30wks) which has just edged me into overweight (bmi 25.5), MW hasn't mentioned it being a problem.

Janie, well done on going to the gym!! I may go swimming tomorrow, depending on how my pre-pg cossie fits.

GardenWorm · 04/06/2013 07:42

So very sorry for you loss Ark. This pregnancy for me comes after 2 MC's in a row (5&8 weeks), both were natural but I found them ok (If that's possible!), my body did what it needed to do all by itself but to be fair once I had the scan there was nothing left so surgery wasn't an option. I didn't find it too bad though as essentially I knew in my heart what was happening... A break is probably a good idea, it took about 5/6 weeks for my first period and then 4 cycles after to conceive, looking back I think my body and mind weren't ready until then, they did their job and waited for the right egg.
Thinking of you today and I hope whatever you decide it is as easy on you as it possibly can be. Big hugs xx

GardenWorm · 04/06/2013 07:44

On the swimming note anyone bought a maternity costume? Been looking at the Jojomamanbebe tankinis but welcome any other input! Plus if anyone got one of theirs which size did you go for? (buying on line)

shellsocks · 04/06/2013 08:21

garden not bought one yet but tankini is a good idea if you're planning on a water birth?

pink I haven't felt sick for two weeks tomorrow so mine has defo subsidised Smile

Thinking of you mummy x

jmf294 · 04/06/2013 08:26

Mummy, so sorry to hear of your loss.
What an insensitive sonographer. I bought the miscarriage book by Lesley Reagan after my MC, it's a very good book, factual but positive so if reading it might help I recommend it.
I had an ERPC in January, I was scared about having a natural MC. It was very straightforward and the whole process felt calm and peaceful. I had no pain afterwards and minimal loss. My period came back in 4 weeks. It was the right decision for me definitely.
Hope you arebeing well supported and looked after. Xx

Mummytothearkbuilder · 04/06/2013 09:30

Thank you all for your messages - you are all so lovely.

I have left a message for the EPU as I think I am going to go with the surgical option. I keep expecting a huge gush of blood when I go for a wee but there is nothing - if it wasn't for the scan I would think everything was okay - it's like a cruel trick my body is playing on me.

I don't think the sonographer meant to be harsh - I asked if I was a higher risk - however the facts and figures she gave me were very scary and then that's all I could focus on. It's really encouraging to know some of you are having healthy pregnancies following 2 losses - DH will find that particularly helpful and hopeful xx

GardenWorm · 04/06/2013 09:59

Definitely don't give up hope Ark, third time lucky for me and I hope to hear the same for you in a few months time xxx

Pentagon · 04/06/2013 10:03

mummy I'm so, so sorry...ignore the sonographer, as both my GP and EPU midwife said to me "you have a child already, there's no reason why you can't have another one". I've had 2 ERPCs, I was really against it the first time and waited to miscarry naturally but it didn't happen (or it did but not fully) so I ended up having one - it was quick and peaceful, it took me 7 weeks to get my period back and then I conceived the second month of trying (the 1st month, we tried at the wrong time anyway because my cycles had changed). With the 2nd missed miscarriage I had an ERPC straightaway, it took me 4 weeks to get my period back and then I got pregnant the 4th month of trying. I hope you have lots of TLC and support in RL, take it easy and look after yourself!

pink I barely felt sick between 12 and 15 weeks but since then I'll have a brief spell of queasiness once or twice a week.

anda you are carrying twins so most of that 10kg must be the babies/placentas/amniotic fluidx2 - please don't stress over it! x

stitchinline · 04/06/2013 10:39

Oh mummy so sad to hear your news. Thinking of you and wishing you all the best for whatever you choose.

I rand the FMC and have booked for harmony bloods tomorrow and then scan on the 21st - eeek. Time for a proper freakout now.

Had my booking in on sunday which seemed to go OK excpet MW was a bit daft, thankfully most appointments from now will be with maternal medicine as I come under high risk care. She just didn't get my medical history and obviously had very little experience with someone in my circumstances.

I'm starting to feel optimistic about this pregnancy, I think I have so much else going on I can't dwell on any other possiblities.

So this one will be born in either singapore or australia - still waiting to find out if our insurance will cover the birth in singapore but if not I can have the baby in australia as that's where I'm from. It's such a big move for us - i've been here 6 years and dh 12 so very excited to be embarking on our next big adventure together.

I need to get swimsuits too - been looking at asos as part of my pre move shopping also seraphine and figleaves have a couple of nice ones.

WillSantaComeAgain · 04/06/2013 12:29

Big hugs to you mummy. To have a second is so tough, particularly so close together. If its any comfort, my two mmcs were identical but this one is going completely differerntly.

The stats are not that bad after two, particularly if (like you, I think) have already had a successful pregnancy. I know that doesn't make this any easier to deal with, but don't lose hope for the future.

stitch - we're scan buddies.

Mine is on 21st at 1400. I will be 12+4 then, so quite a bit later than I'd hoped, especially as I'm already the size of a cow and finding it really hard to hide - and getting really stressed about it. So much so, that I'm about to cancel my birthday party as I can't face everyone speculating (or worse asking) when I really really don't want people to know till after I've got through the scan with no alarm bells. (MMC first time round diagnosed at the scan, and after Aoife's experience, I'm even more nervous).

Swimsuits - because of my giant norks, I found all the maternity suits a waste of space - no support at all, to the extent that they wouldn't even hold the boobs in! So I got a normal tankini from Panache, in my pregnancy cup size but converted up a back size. (So I was a 32GG and I got a 34F). It was fine, really supportive and the tummy panel was big enough to cover the bump right up till 8 months. I LOVED the look on the life guards faces when I waddled in to the pool looking fit to pop. They looked so scared. It then freaked them out more when I started powering up and down doing front crawl and doing tumble turns. (Bliss, and DD used to do somersaults for fun as I did them).

DIYandEatCake · 04/06/2013 13:13

mummy it really really sucks that you've got to go through it all again, I'm so sorry it hasn't worked out. All the very best of luck for next time, and wishing you strength and lots of support from your family and friends in the next few weeks. It is horrid losing anyone from this thread, we all deserve to stay here!

santa, dd was breech and in desperate attempts to get her to turn and avoid a CS (all attempts sadly failed!) I was in the swimming pool doing enthusiastic handstands at 38 weeks. I must have looked ridiculous but by that point really didn't care!

Scan tomorrow afternoon - eek! If all is well will be a relief to tell people, have suddenly got a pot belly and two friends have guessed already. Am getting quite nervous though, can't forget poor aoife.

GardenWorm · 04/06/2013 13:28

Shell don't think a water birth is for me, you know how they say in the early stages of labour to get in the bath to assist with pain relief? Well I got in for about 3 minutes then straight back out, pissed off as I was still in pain and now bloody wet too! Lol!

Stitch I am so jealous of your adventure...I really want to travel but need a lottery win to sort that one! Will take a look at the swimming costumes you suggested.

Santa me n you are definitely on a different level, I don't have the pleasure of giant hooters. Boo. And I am shite at swimming (possibly explains the water birth!), I take DD to lessons because I don't want her to be like me (I go to a swimming pool and just think about the dirt and spend my time spotting grimy looking people who I think are using it as a bath!). Front crawl? Tumble turns? Not me... Grin

BumpKitty · 04/06/2013 13:49

So that's stitch, santa, ibip and me all with scans on the 21st! Super scan Friday Grin anyone else?

I tried on my normal swimming costume last night, I could get it on but everything is somewhat compacted! Super attractive. I'm going away for the weekend with my dad and DD and we've promised her lots of swimming so I may have to panic buy a swimsuit!

Pentagon · 04/06/2013 16:01

DIY and stitch good luck with your scans (plus Harmony test for stitch) tomorrow!

ChocolateCremeEggBag · 04/06/2013 18:42

Oh Mummy I'm so sorry to hear your sad news, I hope you have a quick recovery(physical at least). Best of luck in the future Flowers

Well I'm back from "hols" though not sure a week staying with in-laws really counts and weather in France was rubbish til Saturday (and we drove back on Sunday). But I have my 12 week scan this Thursday so something to stress about look forward to.
My MS seems to have disappeared over the last week, which I have irrationally started to worry means something has gone wrong since the scan 3weeks ago. So counting down the hours til Thursday....

Garden I'm with you on the water birth and swimming pools. When I was in labour with DS, tried a bath and it was no help at all. Tens machine was the best thing for me ( until I could get at the injectable stuff)

shellsocks · 04/06/2013 19:28

garden I put in big letters on my joke of a birth plan last time no water birth...the thought of being stuck in a pool was awful...but now after a horrendous time with DS I think I might try if the circumstances are willing...it can't be worse, can it?!

Lots of scans coming up, best wishes for everyone Smile
