Can somebody please give me a list of things to pack in it? I'm planning on sorting it out this week as have hit 36 weeks and just started Mat leave so need to occupy my idle thumbs!!

Something to wear during labour.
Something to wear after labour (pjs / nightie, dressing gown)
Clothes to go home in.
Spare underwear.
Lots of maternity pads.
Washbag with toiletries in.
Clothes and nappies for baby.
Towels (the hospital I had DS in did provide towels, but they were teeny tiny and scratchy).

I always say this but BLACK trackie bottoms. You don't want to be bleeding on your pretty pjs. Save them for when you get home

I made my husband pack my hospital bag, as frankly he'd be the one getting things out I put everything out and then it packed it.

Your own pillow, so lovely to have a bit of home with you.

A water bottle, sports style do you can just squeeze the water into your month and a flannel.

Cheap black knickers.
Some snacks.
Wipes/cotton wool for nappy changes. Change mat. My hospital didn't provide any changing facilities. Meconium on sheets is not a good look.
Towels. Some nice shower gel - makes you feel so much better after a good shower.
Toothbrush.

I packed those travel sized dry shampoo/spray/wash you can buy which are normally on 3 for 2 offer. Saves space and handy if you have to stay in for longer than expected.

I don't think anyone said lipsyl. Also a book/magazines. Early labour can be boring. I was induced with DS and it was really boring.

Just marking my place as I've started packing bits today (I'm 36 weeks on Mon) and want to make sure I haven't missed anything. Don't think I bothered with a bag time (homebirth) and the time before was 10 years ago and I can't remember!

Thanks all. I think I will start on Monday as clearly still have some bits to pack! One thing they did say at anti natal classes was that it is a good idea to have your birthing partner pack it as then they will know where everything is when you're shouting for it!

Yes it's feeling very close now!! . I'm just trying to finish a diploma I've been doing for a couple of years now and I'm so near the end so not ready for baby just yet but I'm suffering incredibly with my pelvis now (I've hd SPD with all 3 but this time much worse) that as soon as I've finished this course and got the house ready, I'll be begging for him to make an appearance! I really don't want him coming on his due date as it's my dad's birthday (60th!) and I don't want him coming on 19th as it's ds2's 5th birthday. Oh and then I don't want him being 10 days late as that's dh's birthday! LOL So I'll be happy if he avoids those dates!! How are you feeling?

Also take a ready meal and some snacks for yourselves. I have twice given birth in the early hours of the night and absolutely ravenous afterwards with hardly anything around at the hospital to eat. My bag is packed this time with a ready meal, just add water porridge, muesli bars and some yummy French cheeses and biscuits I have had sitting in the fridge for the last couple of weeks waiting....

iv not seen it yet and it really bugged me when i forgot mine! a hair brush

On the subject of knickers, I would recommend you buy cheap ones one or two sizes bigger than your usual, for 2 reasons. One the maternity pads are more padded than sanitary towels and so quite a bit bigger and Two without giving you TMI, you do not want anything down there to be too tight and apply any pressure in 'the area'.

I got the cheapest tesco pack of 5 type of cotton knickers so you can throw them away afterwards if needed without guilt.

I had two bags. One for the Birthing Unit (which has a 6 hour discharge, so wouldn't be staying overnight), and one should I get transferred to the big hospital.

Little bag:
Cheap, large knickers
Disposable knickers (I like choice!)
Disposable mat to stick on the car seat for the journey home
Maternity pads
Snacks - biscuits, dried apricots, juice cartons with straws
Clothes for baby - 2 vests, 2 sleepsuits, hat and cardigan (vest and suits were different sizes)
Bottle and a carton of formula (wanted to be sure that baby could eat in the event something was wrong with me)
Clothes for me - yoga trousers, big stretchy bra, vest top, cardigan
Book and spare t-shirt for OH (came in handy as he got squirted with blood when the cord was cut).
Washbag with - shower gel that can be used for hair too, toothbrush, hairbrush, hairbands, body lotion.
Camera was pushed in at the last moment.

Big bag:
Extras of all the above plus;
pajamas
crappy magazines to read
socks

Carseat was in the car from about 32 weeks, bags packed by the same time. Our big hospital is 2 hours drive, so I didn't want OH to need to go home for anything, and the birthing unit is in a small village (no 24 hour shops) so needed to be prepared for everything and anything!

Wish I had taken a thin dressing gown too though.
