Hi just wanted to know if anyone has had a labour where the baby is back to back with you and is it a difficult labour or is there no difference?

My second was back to back. Had a quick 2 hour labour and pushed him out in 4 minutes... I won't lie it was very painful. I had to have an epidural but it didn't have time to take hold so I was glued to gas. However, there were no complications and the pain was most probably due to the speedy labour rather than the birth itself.

I'd do it all again right now if I could.

Mine was back to back but only discovered when in labour - they said it was the reason I had a protracted latent phase (5 days!). I've heard people say it's more painful but I managed with gas and air and a water birth.

I had a back to back, and I can't say it was horrendous. But I didn't know I was in labour, as I just had intermittent back pain. I wasn't warned that that was how it would feel for a baby in that position.

So keep an eye on back ache. If it gets bad enough that you can't sleep, and it comes in waves, it could well be labour!

There's still plenty of time for baby to turn before you go into labour and there are positions you can use to try to encourage this. Have a look here or google optimal fetal positioning

37 hour labour, 2 epidurals, pethadin, gas and air... But do you know what, my DD (18mo) is the most amazing bundle of fun ever so it was worth it.

You have plenty of time for you lo to turn if they want to, and if they don't it will prob be fine and there's plenty of help around if you need it.

Was told my DS was back to back. He had turned by the time I arrived at hospital. I was told by my MW most do.

I had a back to back labour 10 weeks ago, it was my first so I have nothing to compare it to but it was extremely painful and very long (30 hours).
I had an epidural after 26 hours and it was much more bearable, still painful but not toe curling and I can honestly say I didn't feel pain in the pushing stage.
Having said all that I'd do it all again for her.

Both mine were back to back to start, and both turned during labour. Labour was fine, I managed well on gas and air and paracetemol. But everyone's different. Good luck

DS was back to back and turned during labour. I have nothing to compare it to but I managed fine on gas and air in the pool and it was ten hours start to finish.

Stubbornly back to back from 35 weeks despite spending a portion of every evening on my hands and knees and doing daft inverted positions like some beached whale version of a cirque du soleil wannabe (have a look at www.spinningbabies.com). DS turned during labour, pretty quickly in the end, delivered in a pool at home. Good luck!

My lg was back to back. She was my first and I was only told after she popped out. I have nothing to compare it to, but labour was approx 17 hrs and I managed with gas & air. It was painful & tiring, but that's what I expected.

My first was back to back and a big baby and she got stuck. I ended up having an emergency cesarean because she just wouldn't budge and it was awful, I won't lie. Just make sure every single person involved knows that baby is back to back and is prepared for any eventuality. Then hopefully you won't be surprised like I was. Good luck.

My son was back to back but was only discovered when he failed to progress past 6cm over a number of painful hours. He was stuck and he was apparently squewiff. I had nothing to compare the pain to either. The water birth didn't do anything for me. I had a tens machine on. I had an epidural which was fantastic.

I ended up with a section though as he was stuck!

DD1 was back to back (turned that way at 40 weeks, induced at 42 weeks) labour was all in my back and intense due to induction, but she turned in labour

DC2 (40+6) looks like it'll be the same, stubbornly back to back despite spending most of my time in forward leaning positions. Just hope to avoid induction this time.

Google spinning babies for tips. Some people on here swear by it.

Dd1 was back to back. Had emcs after 2 days due to failure to progress. Had no idea she was b2b until I had my vbac review with midwife. Explained a lot - I wish they had told me when I was in labour, I felt like such a failure when we went to CS.

DD2 was back to back too. Sucessful vbac with g&a, CS was planned but waters broke early and labour progressed too quickly to have CS. No more painful than I had expected to be honest but baby was only 6lbs 7 oz so I might have been shouting for an epidural if I'd been 42 weeks with a 10lb.

I would keep mobile but not obsess about it as most babies do turn. You want to be rested going into labour and not shattered because you have been scrubbing your kitchen floor for days on end with a toothbrush

Both of mine were back to back. One labour was excruciating (2 days, emcs in the end). One was utterly painless (3 days, emcs in the end). The cs were nowt to do with the posterior lie btw.

I wouldn't worry about it. Try the positioning stuff but don't get too anxious. Babies are fickle and I have a pelvis shape which meant they were comfortable back to back. Nowt I could do about it. They can turn at any point. And turn back again.
