Worth bothering with Newborn sized clothing?

Hi!

This is my 1st ever baby and I have bought plenty of 0-3 months and a few bits of "upto 1 month" do I really need newborn too? Or will my baby be drowning in clothes if I don't lol xxx

I didn't buy any newborn and opted for 0-3 months.

As it was DH had to go out and get a whole lot of tiny baby stuff as even newborn would have been too big, although my DD was over full term.

I would just get a couple of cheap bits of smaller stuff,but only enough to tide you over till someone can get to the shops.

I was told to get some but keep the labels on as 0-3 may be massive depending on babies weight. So I'm gonna do that and then take them back if they too small x

Firstly congratulations!

We found up to 1 month was fine! If you happen to have a slightly smaller baby (mine was 7lbs 1oz/3.2kgs) then you can always ask a visitor to pick up a few smaller bits from
Primark or a supermarket.

What do you have for bub so far?

DS was 3 months old before 0-3 fitted him. He was 6lb 15 born and over 10lb before 0-3 came close to fitting him.

I would get some newborn and you may find that even they are too big dependant on the size of the baby.

You'll get different sides but my DS was in newborn for 6 weeks. He was 7lb 12oz (struggled to establish feeding for a couple of weeks as well). Get a variety keep labels on then you can always swap it.

I took 0-3 months into hospital when DS was born. It drowned him and he was 7lb 10 oz. Even DD1 wore newborn and she was 8lb 8oz.

I have just had my second and I thought "up to 1 month" was newborn! I have a bit of both and they don't seem too different in size.

I would stick with what you've got as it is so easy to buy more if you feel you need to. You can request it of your first visitors even. With my first, newborn was (to my hormone addled brain and nobody else's) too big so I got DH to bring in some tiny baby stuff.

Tbh, it doesn't really matter if the clothes are a bit big on a newborn, it is not like they need access to their hands if the sleeves are a bit long and they won't be tripping over if the legs are too long

It depends where you buy from as well. I found Next to be small and Asda and Mothercare massive.

Ds2 is 5 weeks old and we're just growing out of some newborn stuff. Tesco sleepsuits are now too small, Sainsbury's are quit snug, Asda & John Lewis are still fine.

He's probably about 9.5lbs ish? Was 7lbs 9oz at birth.

The 0-3 stuff would have swamped him a month ago.

I thought up to 1 month was the same as newborn

Dc1 was in newborn clothes for about 10 weeks so I definitely needed it. The 0-3 months stuff was ridiculous on him. He was 7lb2 at birth so not especially tiny.

My baby's arms don't reach the sleeves in the newborn coat we were given. I imagine we might get to 0-3 month clothes by August or so!

You won't know til they're born, I'm afraid.

With DS I only bought 0-3 and he was fine, but DD1 was a lot smaller, and was completely swamped by 0-3. I had to rush out for emergency supplies.

It can't hurt if you buy a cheap pack of babygros and vests in Newborn, just in case you have a tiddler.

When my ds was born he was only 6 lbs. I was a skelf back then so he wore early baby for about a week but usually 0-3 months is fine usually. doesn't take long for them to grow. He is now 10 & same size feet as me .

You could buy a pack of newborn a week before you're due then you can always return them if you find that 0-3 fits ok.

With both of mine (both under 7lbs) 0-3 swamped them for a few weeks and I actually used some preterm or tiny baby ones borrowed from a friend for a while. My firstborn was swamped in his 'going home' outfit lol!

I'd try and get some hand me downs from friends in newborn or tiny size then you're not wasting your money and you can always buy more if need be.

See newborn was too small for my little monster. She was 9lb 11oz. Took newborn into hospital and in her first photo the sleeves on her baby gro are up round her elbows and she can't straighten her legs!

I bought newborn stuff for my first DC but he was born huge so it all ended up in the charity shop.

I didn't bother for my second DC and they were a little dot, so I had to buy some newborn as they were swamped in 0-3 and they stayed in newborn for quite a while.

The moral of this story is: Children are awkward sods.

DS was swamped by newborn stuff at 6lb 13. We got some tiny baby things from Tesco then gave them to the special care unit who looked after him after we had feeding problems. I'm due DC2 in a couple of weeks and hardly have any stuff: banking on someone doing a quick trip to a supermarket before we get home.

Yy that mothercare & boots stuff is big, Tesco small, sainsbo/asda somewhere in the middle.

Why don't you buy clothes and keep the tags and receipts on? I've been told by my midwife that baby is measuring small, so I'm expecting to use the newborn size for a while. Or the other option is to get some second hand or like new new born items off gumtree/eBay/a friend. All the best :)

I got told ds would be a big baby so only bought a small amount of newborn but loads of 0-3. He was under 7 pound and was in newborn for 14 weeks all of his stull was bobbling from so much washing.
He then had a massive growth spurt and was in 3-6 months within weeks so loads of the 0-3 went unworn

All my boys were too big for newbotn stuff and went straight in to 0-3mths, ds4 was straight into 3-6mths but he was 10lb 13oz and long.

Thrn i had dd, she was 8lb exactly and 0-3mths swamped her! My mum went out and bought her some newborn stuff :)

Get some bits but dont wash it and then you can swop it if needed. It really depends how big baby is and you wont know until they arrive! :)

Or get some bits from.a charity shop or primark or all the supermarkets do cheap stuff, just a few babygrowd and vests is fine and then if you need more you can get some, plus you will prob get stuff as gifts as well.

I would get one pack of white sleepsuits for newborn - M&S ones are nice and soft and a good size - so that you have something cosy for the hospital. Then if you have a teeny baby you can get more, and if average / big you won't need more. DD was 8lb 2oz and 19ish inches and she was in her wee newborn suits for a couple of weeks.
