Side effects of whooping cough vaccine

Hi I had my jab on Tuesday and still have a large, itchy and hot red patch on my arm, about 10 cm in diameter, with a hard spot in the middle the size of a digestive biscuit. It is painful if I lean on it (i.e. in bed) and doesn't seem to be going away - anyone else have similar? How long did your symptoms last? Don't want to bother doctor if normal!

I had mine on Wednesday and had nothing... it's not even tender so I would call dr as it could be an allergic reaction (sorry as don't want to worry you but probably better to check) It may well be nothing as everyone reacts differently and they do say your arm may hurt for a bit but no harm in calling to check

I had mine on Wednesday. My arm feels bruised and my temp went up 24 hrs later but settled with paracetamol. I'm incredibly tired but that could just be working/pregnant/other dc combo.

mine hurt for a couple of days afterwards to leanon, and the area went alittle hard, it soon settled down though

I think this is down to the tetanus element of the jab. I had mine in my backside because I couldn't afford a sore arm and not sleeping. Mine wasn't too bad, it took me ages to make the link between the injection and feeling like I had a cold coming on two days later.

That sounds really unpleasant... I'd definitely second a trip to the GP/nurse for a check.

Hawkmoth - ummm what tetanus element? I'm 28 weeks and about to ring up to book my jab in at some point but feel like I have zero information about this - all I know is I've been recommended to have it as I'm pregnant and baby needs the antibodies after 28 weeks...

The Dr said to draw a line around the area with biro and check it isn't growing - that's a sign of an infection apparently (happy days!) at the moment it's considered a localised reaction and I'm just hoping it goes away it stings/itches like hell - think a ginormous mosquito bite!

Just had it last week- it is a combined vac with diphtheria and tetanus. Had a reaction just like you describe, a did dh, who had the vac too. In fact his reaction was even bigger and the red area went all the way to the elbow. For us, It lasted about 4 or 5 days and there's still a small raised bump at the injection site on my arm. The doctor advised ice in case of discomfort.

I had arm ache for a few days after & then a week later I had a large red lump, this went down in a few days but I do still have a pink /red patch not swollen about 0.5cm where I had the jab and I a it about 2 1/2 weeks ago.

Sorry for late reply, yes it's a triple vaccine. Obviously they have larger stocks of it. I was a bit surprised at the time but reading up on it, that's the decision from the top.

I did some research and decided that I would risk the lower absorption and have it in my backside rather than arm as I am soft sensitive in the arm area. Flu jab took a week to settle. Nurse wasn't happy but didn't argue much.

I had mine on Monday and was in agony on Tuesday with extreme tiredness and some nausea. I and couldn't sleep on the side of the injection for 4 nights. It's been nearly a week and is still slightly sore and itchy.

I remember mine being sore for at least a week!
