Does it work and when should you start using it?

It has worked on my scars. I have started using it straight away to keep my skin soft and prevent stretch marks rather than treat them x

Excited85 · 25/04/2013 21:32

I started using it as soon as found out however had the start of some nasty stretch marks by 8 weeks (can you believe!). Switched to a cocoa butter moisturiser and skin been much better since. I'd definitely give at least one a try if it doesn't work you haven't lost anything and there's nothing wrong with being super moisturised!!

If you like the smell of cocoa butter, I think this stuff is much better: www.amazon.co.uk/Palmers-Cocoa-Butter-Formula-Stretch/dp/B000TBZCF8/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1366921997&sr=8-2&keywords=cocoa+butter+stretch+mark+cream

I don't have any stretch marks - DS is 7 months

I've been using cocoa butter! So much better. I used bio oil and ended up with stretch marks on my boobs, not my bump though! (not yet anyway) I find cocoa butter much more soothing and it moisturizes well.

Springforward · 25/04/2013 22:39

I used it with DS, hated the smell and feel on my skin TBH so once I read that stretch marks are difficult to avoid as it's a genes/ luck thing I switched to Aveeno, Palmer's cocoa butter or Doublebase in this pregnancy and at 34 weeks my skin feels comfy and I still don't have any stretch marks.

Applepiesky · 26/04/2013 09:34

Aw thank you ladies ! I love palmers cocoa butter so gonna try that one! I'm only 6 weeks so ill get it ASAP :-)

I was researching bio-oil earlier as was thinking of using it and here's what I found - www.intelligentanswers.co.uk/index.php?topic=2180.0.
So decided to just buy almond and argan oils, mix them and use that. Am now 27 weeks and so far so good. Great immediately after showering on wet skin and them just pat the water out - does not make you all massively greasy.

I looooooooooove bio oil. I use it at night and palmers/burt bees stretch mark butter in the mornings. I had stretch marks before (never used anything), but are pretty invisible from the daily use of bio oil. This time at 28 weeks I have not a single stretch mark on my stomach so going to keep up the regime.

pinkteapot · 26/04/2013 13:10

used it from 10 weeks till birth with dc1, twice a day, expensive business!! did sweet fa tbh. got stretch marks so badly u cudnt see mormal skin at all over the bottom half of my bump. what a waste of money. using dermo mum cream this time, a tub lasts forever n skin feels moisturised, which is all i'm expectin this time! dont think i'd spot new stretch marks though, too wrecked lookin already! theyre largely genetic anyway...

crazypaving · 26/04/2013 13:27

from what I've read it seems to me that it's all about genes and nothing you put on your skin will actually make a difference - the skin stretches too deep down iyswim.

that said, I have lots of stretch marks from teenage growth spurts on my hips, and in desperate hope I used bio oil religiously during both my pregnancies. and I didn't get a single stretch mark.

who knows eh!

Bunnylion · 26/04/2013 14:05

I agree with crazypaving it's down to your genes whether you get streach marks or not.

A friend of mine didn't moisutrise once and she hasn't got one streach marks. I've religiously done it morinng and night throughout my pregancy and am covered : (

I used Bio oil for about 6 weeks at the beginning and it didn't stop them appearing. I now use a collogen one from The Sanctuary Covent Garden. It's niceand I've got lovely soft skin but not sure it's stopping the marks developing.
