Waters have just broken but ...

Midwife doesn't believe me!

I'm 40+1 and yesterday evening had immense pains low down and in to my bottom. My bump tightened all over but the pain was just low not all over. It lasted about 3 hours I went to bed and it eased off.

I had a sweep this morning, which midwife said I was 3/5 engaged and she could get one finger round. She made a point of telling me sweeps are not usually successful.

I came home, had a nap then decided to tackle the gardening. So glad I did because I suddenly felt like fluid was coming out, thinking I was weeing myself I tried to hold it but it just overwhelmed me and I gushed everywhere. My pad was soaked and it went down my legs into my shoes.
I couldn't smell anything from the fluid and what I could see it was colourless but as I'd had my sweep I also had some blood on the pad so couldn't quite tell for sure.

Then 20 mins after this I got the same pains as last night every 5 minutes but not lasting that long and not as intense as last night.

I called the labour ward to see what I needed to do and midwife said waters don't usually just gush and they will continue leaking after the initial leak.
I'm to only call back in an hour if a new pad gets wet which so far it hasn't.
About the pains she said they'd only have me in if the pain was unbearable.

I'm sure I didn't wet myself as although I have a weak bladder I usually only dribble and can hold the rest in.

What do ya think ?!

mines just gushed with ds. i had him about 15 mins later.

i'd phone back & tell them you're coming- do you still have the pad? if you show them it, they'll know if it's waters or not.

With a big gush like that she really ought to see you and do a speculum and see if there's any evidence of SROM. Ring back and tell them you want to be checked over as you're sure it wasn't urine.

I'd ring and tell them your going in, will take them 10 mins to examine you, and then they'll send you home if they don't think anything is going on, but at least you'll know! Good luck!

I gushed (also after a sweep). If you feel you have to, go in and wave the pad in her face as proof best of luck.

Mine absolutely gushed! Most definitely! I'd just go in if I were you, they won't send you home once you get there without examining you first.

My waters broke I went the hospital and she examined me and said they hadn't (i was saying they bloody had) stood up and watched her face as the water kept dripping down my legs.

in my experience, you get fobbed off a lot when it's your first.

they tried to fob me off with my second. when i pointed out i'd done all this before & knew i WAS in labour, i got "you should have said you weren't a first-timer, just make your way up as soon as you can, then hen" i was like this .

Mine gushed out of the blue (no pains or anything) 10 mins later I was snuggling DS3.

My mate drenched the mw in the labour ward when hers went...literally a fountain. Poor woman had just bent down to heck how dilated mu matevwas as they went.

Mine gushed out of the blue with dd2, 2 weeks early. I thought I HAD wet myself until the pains started coming too. Dd2 was born following day :)

Definitely a gush for me! All over the (tiled thank goodness) hall floor. I think the amount after the initial gush will depend on the baby's head. If the head drops down once your waters go then this may stop any further leak. If that makes sense? Won't be long until you see your new arrival!!

Mine gushed...I was 35 weeks at the time and when I got to hospital the midwife asked me if I was sure it was my waters....I said " my landing carpet is drenched"!!! She checked me out and I was 7cm and Ds1 was born half an hour later. Only you know so if you're not happy get to hospital xx good luck xx

Mine gushed. But they also carried on gushing and I think that's what she's getting at. If you lie down and then get up and move around and you don't leak at all it is likely it wasn't your water. However, she really should check you over, even if it's only for your peace of mind!

My waters dribbled out over days but still I wasn't believed or examined as I was 34 weeks. A week and a half after telling them my waters had gone I ended up catching some in a pot and took it in to show them. They took one look at the pot and agreed my waters had gone.

Be brave and force the point there is no harm in getting checked and being wrong. Better safe than sorry.

I got up from a chair and dramatically gushed all over my office carpet - as I wasn't due for another month it was a bit of a shock.
I was really shocked as everybody had said it only did that in films and real life was nothing like that.

I was told mine hadn't.I knew they had.Then they confirmed they had.I said 'yes,I know' and proceeded to get all my stuff wet for the next couple of days.

It's a different feeling to having a wee.A wee you can stop and start,but waters you can't.

Yes this is first baby so I have no idea what to expect.
The hospital is very close to me, only over the road so I can get there quickly.
Well no more leaking or real pain overnight, just some discomfort.

Last night I had a wee on the loo and soaked part of a pad and it did look much more yellow that the original stuff. But my wet trousers this morning do smell of old wee so I may have just peed my pants!

Mine gushed with my second and they didn't believe me either. I didn't carry on gushing at all. I knew it was my waters and knew I was in labour. It was about 10 hours from my waters going that I had any pains, 2 and a half hours after that I went into hospital and had dd 30mins after leaving home.

Regardless of what it was they should check you over. I'd say to hold on though until you're getting regular contractions and trust me you'll know when they're proper contractions. It's great you're so close to the hospital so you don't have to worry about not getting there in time!

By the way waters can just gush! Mine did and I see lots of other people's on here did too! God knows what the midwife was talking crap for! x
