I know this may sound daft but after the birth when they take u onto the ward what happens when visiting is over and DH had left. What if i need the toilet etc. Do you leave baby unattended on ward in crib or do u call a nurse. If i have a c section and cant lift baby ? also this is my first dc and i am a total baby virgin. Will they show me how to wind him etc

When I had DS I was in my own room and because I'd had a long labour and forceps delivery they brought food to me in my room and I had my own bathroom so showered there. We were readmitted when he was 4 days and then when we went for meals the midwives watched the babies and the same if you wanted a shower. I had my own room again so just opened the curtains so they could see him. In the evening I went to the lounge to watch telly and wheeled him with me in his little crib. The ward is all locked though except at visiting times.

I had a section and got no help whatsoever. I pretty much kept the baby in the bed with me as it was easier than trying to pick him up and down, of course I then got told off by the midwifes as they like babies to be in their cots unless they are being fed. They were supportive when it came to feeding though and I did buzz a few times when he wouldn't stop crying but looking back it was a bit ridiculous to have no help lifting him etc with numb legs and a catheter in! They also provided formula if you needed it but I wasn't shown anything like bathing or winding.
