Morning sickness and work!

How sick would you have to be not to go to work. I only work till 3 but find up until about 11 I just feel so bad. Headache, nausea, sweats, have only actually been sick a handful of times but am sitting here in tears at how crap I feel. Have insomnia too so have been feeling like this since 3am!

Am only just past 8 weeks too, bloody praying that it stops soon as am really not enjoying feeling like this and am starting to regret agreeing to TTC3.

My GP wrote my employer a letter as I had time off and then reduced hours - I had hyperemesis that was helped by medication.

With the medication I was sick less but still nauseous 100% of the time.

oh no! i so feel your pain - i am 15 weeks, still sick, and it is worse between 11-2 pm than any other time.

getting signed off isn't an option for me (i live overseas so not easy), also my employer doesn't know.

and i'm ploughing through relentless 12 hour days at the moment. also dealing with unbroken sleep due to bladder infection. grim.

if you can get signed off, i would consider it. a few days respite might help. my only fear is i would get used to it. or you can get anti nausea meds from the doc (well i was offered them here if really bad).

I feel your pain - I am about 11 weeks and I'm feeling absolutely horrendous. Nauseous 24/7, vomiting a few times a day but never know when it's going to strike! I don't want to eat or drink anything and have bloating and stomach cramps with it too.

I'm self employed so if I don't work, I don't earn, so even though in normal circumstances I would say I'm too sick to work, I'm not taking any time off (yet - if it goes on too long I may have to).

In your case, if you can get signed off and have some paid time off sick to recover - do it! It probably won't be for long but just getting the extra rest might help. With two other DCs already I'm sure you're not getting much in the evenings!

I've just come home due to feeling rotten. Left at 2pm should have been there until 5pm. I was falling asleep at my desk, came home a threw up.

My boss is ok but doesn't do empathy for physical illness. So when I said I was going home as I was exhausted I just got told I'd have to get used to it.... She knows I'm pg, no way I could hidden it with sea sickness bands and crackers.

She isn't actually a bitch but I wish she wouldn't say stuff like that.... I'm doing my best and hopefully this won't last too long.

Bloody hell ladies I will stop moaning! You all sound as though you having a much harder time than me.

If I can just manage until after 11 without vomiting I know I'll be alright.

Mind you cleaning teeth is big obstacle at the moment as gag reflex has gone into overdrive!

Think maybe if dont feel any better by the back end of the week will see if I can start a bit later.

I used to just try and get on with it, but I had a nice office job, toilets within swift reach, and a quick and easy train journey home. The vomiting went on for so long that, honestly, if I'd stayed off until it had stopped I would have been signed off for about 4 months. And more than anything else I would have been bored! But of course, for you at the moment its made worse by the 1st trimester exhaustion, so if you are still sick/nauseous in the 2nd trimester at least you might have a bit more pep back, and that will help.

I was honest about it, my manager and team knew I was suffering from sickness. But if I had a day where I started throwing up in the morning (my sickness generally got worse as the day went on) then I knew it would just be an awful day, and admitted defeat and went home.

Oh Madamecastafiore i feel your pain!! i'm only 5 weeks and feel so sick, and i've had awful diarrhoea, i feel so tearful and anxious! :( i can't believe i have to wait another 7 weeks before my first scan. I'm feeling v sorry for myself! hugs to you xx

I guess it depends on you & your job.

I vomitted morning & evening most days from 6-14 weeks & in total took 7 days off in 3 episodes where the intensity of vomitting/sleep deprivation/feeling awful was just too much - usually triggered by a run of 12.5 hour stressful days (vomitting on the commute home - nice...) without adequate breaks/regular food!

If it's under 7 days you can 'self certify' rather than needing a note & let them know it's pregnancy related.
