Hi I wonder if anyone else has had this or has any ideas please - and sorry if it's too much detail.

I am finding it hard to wee. Last night while I was up with DS I found I couldn't wee at all. But after standing up and jigging around a bit I found I could but still had to force it (again sorry for being detailed).

My kidneys have started to ache and I'm getting a bit concerned.

Thanks in advance.

Sorry, I have no experience of this, but bumping for someone who might.

I would ring the maternity ward if I were you and ask them for some advice.

oh god, meandmyboy
yes, I had this, twice in early pregnancy and ended up being catheterised

I know it sounds odd, but try drinking a lot - are you constipated? The problem with me was that I was and the bowels were pressing on the tube that led from the bladder (can't remember what it was called)
This meant that the muscle couldn't contract so I could wee

I was like you to start with but then it got really really bad hence the catheterisation.

So, drink lots to get your bowels moving, sunflower seeds are good too apparently and of course, fresh orange juice./ Cranberry juice is good for helping your kidneys out

Another thing that might help - detail here, so brace yourself. Sit right far back on the loo and open your legs quite wide. Then lean forwards and see if you can wee then. If not, try holding a wedge of toilet paper against you and try again - so you end up weeing through the paper and your fingers

And tell your midwife / gp. they can prescribe lactulose, which makes your poo softer so you go a bit more!

sorry for the detail, but believe me, you don't want to get to the point where they have to empty your bladder for you

i had this for a few weeks although little bit earlier- it would take ages for my wee to come out and i'd end up being on the loo for a long time just waiting. i didnt do anything about it and it eventually went more or less back ot normal.

i would mention it though if you're getting kidney ache.

Very important to get this checked out asap. Definitely call the labour ward for advice. I'm sure that a UTI is a possibility, but even if it's just positional you need to drain your bladder.

Oddly enough, I often find it difficult to wee, or to empty my bladder properly during the first trimester. I need to jiggle around and sort of push to get it out, and often feel that I haven't quite emptied my bladder. It's never been as extreme as your situation though, so I don't recall ever mentioning it to a midwife or GP. I put it down to the fac tthat I have a very large fibroid which moves around a lot during the first trimester, so I think that maybe it puts physical pressure on some part of my urinary tract. Becuase the fibroid is quite high up, it gets lifted up by the uterus as the pg progresses, so presumably no longer presses. Hurts like billy, though Wink.

Try lying on your back and cycling your legs in the air, and rolling over and over slowly a couple of times to jiggle things up a bit. Alternatively, sit in a warm bath and try to have a wee in the bath after a while.

But you must must get this checked out.

thank you ladies has put my mind at rest that it isn't anything more serious.

Tillykins thanks for the detail I will try that. Nope I don't want to be catheterised although at 3.30 this morning I did wonder if that was were I was heading.

I'm already doing the cranberry juice but will up the water and see how that helps. I'll try the on call doc's as see what they can help tonight as well.

Thanks again :)

Thank you for all the responses.

I've been to the GP today and they've tested me and I'm clear for a UTI. The suggestions are thrush or dehydrated. So been drinking like a fish and it's not made much difference so far so will see what the next couple of days brings :)

how are you now? Any better?

MeAndMyBoy · 17/05/2006 16:18

thanks for asking. A lot better the UTI symptoms have gone, so think i was dehydrated - inspite of drinking about 2 ltrs a day - just need a bit more.
