Does anyone have any idea on what progesterone/hCG levels should be in early pregnancy? Have I over-dosed???

Just got a BFP after a chemical pregnancy in Jan. As I have a short LP, my progesterone levels are a worry so I have supplemented/self-prescribed with 400mg cyclogest (oh the joys) since last Saturday (12DPO).

My GP came back to me with my results today: 145 at 16DPO... can this be right ?? I was at 83 when I was 8 weeks pregnant with DC1.

Just wondering if I should taper down the cyclogest or continue till week 12? It has caused my temps to rocket and poor DH is worried at the prospect of sharing a bed with a mad and sweaty pregnant woman for the next 8 weeks Blush . All the usual preggo symptoms seem far more exaggerated on this stuff! But am worried that a sudden drop in progesterone might cause bleeding.

hCG is 283 and the normal range for 4w+2d is 200-400, so this bit seems ok?

That doesn't seem excessive. I don't think cyclogest shows up in blood tests and also it's likely that your own hormones are making your temps rocket not the supplement. I personally would take the cyclogest up to around 9 weeks when the placenta takes over to give you some reassurance. It all sounds good. Congratulations! Smile

I take cyclogest (not the nicest things in the world) and I have been told to continue with them until at least 12 weeks as that gives the baby the best chance (I have had 2 previous mc) my progesterone levels are also slightly higher as I am 8 weeks but they are at the level of 10 weeks but my midwife said it is not a bad thing and its better to be high than low as low is when it can cause issues for baby because means body isn't producing what it should be.
Hope u aren't too worried but if u are just ask ur doctor or midwife. But I'm sure if your doctor was worried they would have told u when they gave u the results. So try and relax ( I know that's harder said than done) and enjoy ur pregnancy x

Thanks guys. So Expat you don't think they are too high? I haven't been able to work out what the normal range is from a quick google.

RJM17 can I ask what your levels are? I'm taking the cyclogest without my GPs supervision but I did tell him I was on it. He was not able to advise me on the dosage as it was outside his area of expertise, but was worried that a sudden drop might cause problems... so I think you're both right in that I should continue to take it.

Are excessive hormonal levels ok for the baby?

Congrats on your pregnancy RJM17 Smile

I can't remember what they were but know they were high. I saw the specialist consultant at the early pregnancy clinic and they put me on 200mg per day. So not sure about the dose u are taking if u weren't prescribed. Maybe check with midwife?

Thanks and congrats to you too x

My prog levels were high - I think around 140. Also remember that different labs measure it differently. I really think you're fine. High prog means that your body has geared up to sustain a pregnancy. A sudden withdrawal won't cause problems but if you're anxious why not take just one a day and then decrease to one every other day etc...
