Changing unit + drawers/combined unit/mat on the floor...

Not sure if this is the right place for this,but please help! Due in a matter of weeks, and will be getting baby stuff set up over those few weeks (I hope!)

Going to get a cotbed. That's decided. But changing? I don't have any drawers or storage for baby's clothes, so thought a combined chest of drawers with a dresser top would be best. But have had loads of people raving about the Cosatto bath and changer units, so thought I could get one of those and a cheap set of drawers...

Can anyone help? Need storage and place to change without bending (already having issues with that!) thanks in advance!

I'm thinking single wardrobe and a changing unit. I've heard good stuff about bath changing unit but would rather get a little seat/bath to put in our bath. Keep water to the bathroom! I'd welcome views too though xx

personally i would not get a changing table. I think a mat on the floor is much safer. I have two friends who have had babies roll off these when they turned round to get nappy or wipes whatever. much safer on the floor and you can easily put mat away. i used to have two one for upstairs and one down.

Actually we are not buying a changing unit - my mum (had 4 of us) said they are a total waste of money, since you can't leave baby unattended on it for a moment as it may roll and fall - even from very early on. Really on the floor is best - no risk. But then you have your back.... She said have items to hand and just use changing mat - even get two, one for upstairs and one for downstairs if you like - they are about 10 quid or less each for the plastic wipe clean ones. You could put this on kitchen table, on bed, on sofa etc at first if having issues bending? However - it occurs to me - if you need storage why not buy some you can put a mat on top of at first, like you mentioned above? Save in long run? Just shove products you need in top drawers?

We are going to get some of the TROFURS stuff from ikea - then these can be used by the little one for toys later on, drawers are plastic and easily removable/cleanable, and they have heaps of combos. Ikea also do changing tables too . www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/categories/series/19027/

Ikea also do changing tables - have a look (and no i don't work for them but I just think some of the baby stuff and kids stuff in partic is reasonably priced and good quality for what it is.

p.s. also on the bath front - you are way better off if needed with a small bath/seat IN bath, don't go faffing about with baths outside of the actual bath - again dangerous and could fall over. and all that heavy water. If you really struggle with back, I you can buy items that clip on top of bath, to fix a baby bath in (this big version version of a soap rack type thing!) and you could fill with shower attachment - and some baby baths have a plug in them, to safely let water out.

We got a cheap second hand changing unit, would that be an option? Was dubious about whether I'd want it but ended up with a c section so was very glad of it. It's used for storing toys and nappies at the moment, saving it for dc2. We also have a chest of drawers and a wardrobe in dd's room, adult size ones that she can hopefully use for many years.

Baby baths are IMO a waste of time and space! We used the top of a good chest of draws with a change mat on top. All nappies cream wipes etc were within reaching distance ( shelves and hanging storage) so baby was never left unattended. It saved my back and my hips and made it all so much easier.

Until ds started to do the 'lets crawl away game' then it was the floor.

I bought a beautiful change table and sold it about 2 months after baby born. Waste of money. You can't leave the baby unattended, and they take up too much space without that much storage, and only have a limited life span (won't be needing it after a year or so). I put plastic change mat on bed or floor, which was much easier and safer, and then get a chest of drawers that will last them through childhood x

Thanks so much for all the comments, really helpful. Think I will do what teaandflapjacks mentioned, get a mat, use it on top of drawer unit at first, then on floor when my back is hopefully a bit more supple! And a baby bath for in the bath!
