Expecting 9-10lb baby, what size clothes?

Basically just that!

Ds was 9lb 5 and was a long baby. 29 wks and measuring a few weeks bigger. Probably looking at a 10lber considering ds was expected to be small and turned out to be a bit of an eye waterer.

Will first size be too small? I don't want baby swamped but I also don't see any point in getting only a weeks wear out of clothes.

My DS was 9lb 13 and went into 0-3 pretty much straight away, and then 3-6 months at 6 weeks old. He's now 14 months and has been wearing 18-24 month clothes for about 5 weeks. The ages mean nothing!

Mine were both over 9lbs and wore a handful of newborn sizes for a week or two, then went into 0-3 months for about a month before moving up to 3-6 months. Of course sizes vary between brands (eg Gap seemed tiny, but this was years ago) but yes, I would say there is very little point in getting any newborn sizes.

Yep. Don't bother with newborn. Go stright to 0-3.

I've only got 3 babygrows and a pack of vests so far. I have gone straight for 0-3 but have been questioning it since seeing my friends baby last week.

He was 7lbs and is swamped in first size.

My DD2 was 10lb 4oz and 0-3 mth clothes were a waste of time. She was pretty much straight into 3mth plus. However, look at the weight guides on tags - they can differ by a few pounds. Good luck with DC2

My dd was 10lb 9oz and 24 inches long when born, hubby was dispatched for bigger clothes and dd spent the first two hours of life wrapped in a hospital towel, go for 0-3 months. Marks and spencer/gap do size small, so maybe have a pack of baby gro's from there just in case of swamping.

Also don't forget that jersey babygrows always shrink when you wash them, so a newborn size which is perfect fit on first wear may well be too tight two days later.And 0-3 months which look huge are only slightly baggy on second wear.

My DS was 9lb 1oz and long and skinny, I found the newborn size quite baggy on him, and moved him into 0-3 month size after about a month or so.

I think with the vests it doesn't matter if they're too big, but for the babygrows, the baby might get their legs muddled up in the long baby grow legs!

Maybe buy 6 of each size and don't open them and if the 0-3 month size is fine for your newborn, then you can return or exchange the newborn size?

Mine were 9lb 2, 8lb 13 and 9lb 10 and none of them would have fitted into newborn (sadly, as I was given a few bits in that size as gifts every time) A lot of the problem with my three though was that they had absolutely huge feet, and it really affected the fit of babygrows.

I used 0-3 months for ds. You can't get away from the fact they grow quickly! Just stick to vests and sleep suits for the first few months to keep costs down.

My ds was 10lb 5oz and was in 3-6months at 2 weeks old. I'd go for a couple of 0-3 months but then get 3-6months.

0-3 months here, DS was 4.4kg (sorry, don't know lbs and can't convert), I think that's just under 10lbs. And he was long. Get maybe a pack of six newborn, H&M I find are really good, nice cotton, neutral colours, good price. If you find baby is too big, you haven't wasted too much money.

The labels on baby grows have max weights printed. Go by that. My 9lber wore newborn for about 6 weeks.

when my DS was born, the midwife threw out his 0-3mth vest, I just remembered, she just looked at it, and said ppffttt, and threw it!!!

He did get a couple of weeks out of the 0-3 months

And we skipped the first 2 sizes of nappies too, straight to no 3 pampers

Just to say - DS was 9lb & when I was pregnant with DD they warned me she was going to be bigger..a lot bigger. I had an extra growth scan as they were worried about me trying for a VBAC and at that stage (32 weeks?) they confirmed DC was already just shy of 9lb

She was born at 41 + 1 weighing a tiny smidge over 8lb

Like everything else, you won't really know until you get your next baby out. Predicted weights are often wrong!

Newborn sizing usually goes up to around 11lb and of course newborn babies lose weight to begin with, so you might get a few weeks wear.

My son was just under 8lb so we needed the newborn size. I hadn't bothered initially but 0-3 months hung right off him and looked like he was wearing clothes aged 3-4 years!

I was told DS would be big, at 9-10lb.

He was 11lb 7oz.

Go for 0-3.

When I was born I was 12lbs 10! I was also very long (I am now just under 5ft 11) and all the newborn clothes my mum was hoping to put me in were useless ... I was in 3 - 6 months leaving the hospital :-D

I would say like others have suggested and get 1 or 2 bits for newborn and the rest for 0-3 months x

In same dilemma, DD was 9lbs 5oz, long at 23inches, had lots of growth scans so knew beforehand, but she did fit snugly in her newborn stuff for a few wks at least... Now expecting DS, 26wks, am huge as was with her, got growth scans at 29 & 36wks to gage size, initially only got 0-3 stuff, but after sorting DDs stuff from loft recently, realised how much newborn stuff she did wear so gonna get a few bits for DS as don't want him swimming and swamped in early weeks! Also slightly inclined not to get too much as DD born in summer heatwave so just in nappy a lot and DS due in July so that's another factor to think about!
