I Don't feel comfortable with my Midwife

Hi All, Yesterday was my 3rd visit to see my local midwife at my GP's and im still not warming to her. I go into my appointment really excited and come out deflated!!!! I know it would probably be hard to change midwifes as id have to change GP's as well. I think though i could possibly put up with her for my appointments, but does any one know does this mean she will be at the birth i don't think i could handle her then!!!

The midwife I saw throughout all my pregnancies was not the one present at the birth.

You can ask to change midwives.
I've had two community midwives but both have been really lovely so I've been lucky.

You can ask to see a different midwife. I never saw the same one twice! Also, it was a different midwife again in hospital and again for home visits.

What is the problem though, is she rude, unfriendly, unhelpful? Or we're you just hoping for something different? If you're having a home birth she could be there at delivery depending on when you go into labour, if you're having a hospital delivery it's extremely unlikely.

thanks all this is good to know, i knew i could handle the appointments but the thought of having her at the birth was getting to me. Its just the way she speaks to me when i ask a question like as if i should know when honestly i haven't got a clue Lol!!

I didn't like my MW at all. Her clinics were rushed and nothing was clearly explained. Also she refused to give me my maternity exemption certificate until 16 weeks, claiming that if she signed it off before it would expire sooner . I changed GP surgery to one more local and the MW I have now is wonderful. She's friendly, reassuring and down to earth - so glad I moved .

suggest you feedback to the GP practice at some point how you felt - after delivery if that feels more comfortable, or even anonymously. There might be other women who are also not happy and these things can go on for ages when no one feeds back - I realise that this is sometimes difficult though

Mine is a bit blunt she's strait to the point and not very likeable but she's really professional and knowledgeable, I have a cover one a few times and some if them are very 'nice' but I like mine more as she doesn't talk down or condescendly to me - this is baby 3 and I've had the same midwife for all but at the hospital I have had a different one every time never my community one - find out which hospital she may attend and go to a different one!!
