I have also posted this on November antenatal clubs but someone suggested I might get more responses here so here goes...

I am 39 and pregnant with my second child. My nuchal scan yesterday put me just outside the high risk group for Downs Syndrome (the measurement on the baby's neck was 2.4). As I need to know one way or the other I have opted for CVS on Monday but would really appreciate others experiences as I am very nervous. Many thanks

Haven't had CVS but had an amnio last year - I gather it's the same sort of procedure although I know that with CVS they take a sample of the placenta whereas with amnio they take a sample of the amniotic fluid. You'll have a detailed scan before the procedure. I was extremely nervous before mine. The procedure doesn;t hurt and you can see what's going on via a monitor if you choose to. TBH the waiting is the worse thing. You may have some cramping pains afterwards - I had mild ones but think some people suffer a bit more. I felt enormous relief once the procedure was out of the way but then waiting for the results was a difficult time.
Wishing you all the best. Try and put it out of your mind - easier said than done I know.
