thoughts on baby hammocks

Is anyone else looking at these? I've read quite a bit about the safety side, and am now left looking at the choices available...
The best value, given the baby will only be in it for max 6 months, seems to be the rocker baby (rockerbaby. Co. Uk). Seriously lacking in reviews though.
Anyone heard of it?

I think you would be incredibly lucky to get 6 months out of it to be honest! I looked at getting one when I had DS but decided (for the same reason as I discounted a swinging crib) I didn't want him to get used to the movement and refuse to sleep once he outgrew it.

So glad I never bothered - he was rolling by 3 months, I wouldn't have felt safe putting him in past then anyway :)

We used an Amby hammock with DD for 8/9 months and could probably have gone on for another couple of months. Loved it and will use again with next one.

glad to hear about the amby...I'm 35+4 and starting to worry if I made wrong choice and should go buy a moses basket. ..however have heard lots of positive stories...

We used a Miyo baby hammock, and it was the best thing we ever bought. DS was in it for about 8 months, but only because he was a very long baby. With this hammock, the rolling over is no issue, they simply cannot do it, as they are almost in a swaddled position. He slept brilliantly in it, we took it everywhere with us, even abroad (you can hang it from door frames, so no problem with moving about). DS slept through from six weeks, and there were no problems with transferring him into his cot.
I'm currently of with DC2 and can't wait to get the hammock up again.

Amby, love it. Moses baskets don't last, don't rock, and aren't so comfy. Mine stay in it until 8 months or so.

I'm also considering the same so am just looking to see what people recommend.

I was looking at the natures nest ones as you can get cheap frames etc on eBay & new mattress' on their site so it's not too costly a mistake if it turns out to be no good.

I know a baby died in one but it was suspended in a laundrette so very hot & placed wrong so their head was low and legs high, poor mite.

My DS3 slept in an Amby hammock until he was 12/13 months. We had the extra duty spring on it. It was the only thing he slept in (he had severe reflux) and was fab. However be aware of the recall; 2-3 babies have suffocated in them (I think the 3rd is not 100% due to the hammock they were investigating last time I read). I believe the babies rolled over against the fabric and it tipped back. One of the fathers is suing Amby. I read into it quite a lot when we used it. You have to be very careful that the hammock is assembled at the right angle and the head is upright slightly. I also had DS right next to my bed and used a sleeping bag and Amby wedge to stop him rolling. I also used a Respisense breathing nappy monitor so that would have gone off if he rolled/got stuck. I would recommend it but as long as you are cautious.

I used a Rockerbaby hammock and absolutely loved it. My DS wouldn't sleep so a friend gave me an Amby to trial. It was great but I needed to get a hammock of my own that didn't cost the earth. Found the frames identical and not enough difference in the hammock to warrant the price difference (if anything the Rockerbaby was easier to adjust and had great customer service from the website). You can use the hammocks for longer than 6 months as they will hold up to 15kg I guess it depends on your baby. Like JBrd, can't see anyway for a baby to roll over using this hammock due to the way they are held.

Many was brill with DS but we did end up pitting a Moses basket IN it as curved position seemed to make him wheeze. For some reason it's not great with dd - 10 weeks- as she's a wriggler and, now I've read about the recall, I think we'll move her on to a cot despite reflux as she does end up head down low. Try eBay, btw, as we paid about £80 for one in mint condition.

i too was keen on a hammock and looked at quite a few including the Rockerbaby hammock, was put off this one when she told me it hadn't been safety tested so I went for the poco baby hammock and have been really pleased with it reasonable price and brill quality. I thought it might stretch and go a bit out of shape and my baby got bigger but have to say im impressed with the strength of it and my baby slept so well in it would definitely recommend it www.pocobabyhammocks.co.uk they have some good reviews on kiddicare too.

This thread is old but I just wanted to add my experience with the Rockerbaby to warn other people who may be considering it. When I ordered the hammock, the website described it as being 100% cotton. Then it arrived and the label said 100% cotton and 100% fill. I was happy with the product and decided to keep it so I threw away the box (which had arrived badly damaged because the seller sent it broken, but that is another issue) and washed it. However, after washing it, I noticed that the filling couldn't be cotton because cotton feels different after washing, so I decided to open the mattress a bit to check and lo and behold, the filling was 100% nasty polyester and so was the quilting on the hammock. The fabric itself also felt low quality and it could be a cotton/poly blend but I wasn't sure.
So not only was the product description on the website misleading and incorrect, the label was also wrong which is illegal. I was very angry at this and also at the fact that I was 2 weeks away from my due date and thought I had a hammock when indeed I only had a polyester-filled product where I would never want my baby to sleep. I decided that the easiest solution was to replace the filling with cotton myself, since returning it would be a hassle as I didn't have the box anymore. I contacted the owner and asked for a partial refund since I had to incur an expense to substitute the filling with cotton.
The seller was very unfriendly and at first she even tried to deny that there was anything wrong with the description on her website but later admitted it. However, she refused to offer me a partial refund, and said that if I didn't like the product I could return it at my own expense for a refund. Returning it was not a good option, but she didn't even offer to pay for the return shipping, I would have to pay for that despite her product description being a lie!
I tried to use the paypal dispute system, but she changed the description on the website right before escalating the dispute to a claim and refused to give a partial refund. Unfortunately it seems that paypal cannot enforce partial refunds, only full refunds so they only gave me the option of returning the item for a full refund which is what she wanted. So now I am stuck with a hammock that I have to modify at my own expense and the terrible feeling of having been deceived and not being able to do anything about it! Please beware of this company!!

Oh, I'd like to add that paypal only offered me to return the item at my expense of course, they cannot enforce the seller to pay for return shipping even though under the distance selling regulations she is required to do so.
