Multicystic Diplasmic Kidney and Markers for Edwards Syndrome

Hello,

I'm posting this to try and find if there is anyone else out there who has had a similar experience to chat to...

It was picked up at our 20 week scan that our DD had a problem with her left kidney - It was cystic and we were referred to a Specialist Fetal Consultant. He confirmed it was a Bilateral Multicystic Diplastic Kidney. He also however found a number of other markers and abnormalities that suggest something else could be up. These include Cloro Plexus Cysts which he said were on the large side, high levels of amniotic fluid, an echogenic mass in the abdomen and a smaller than average baby. Individually these would mean nothing, but together and in conjunction with the Kidney he suggested an Amnio to rule out Edwards Syndrome (trisomy 18)

We had the Amnio today and should get the results in a couple of days, but it's difficult waiting. I'm also concerned that even if the Amnio results come back clear, with this many markers there is a chance that something else is up....

You?re thrown so many statistics and 'what if's' that you're left spinning and not knowing what to think...

I'd love to hear from anyone who has had a similar experiences...

Many thanks!

Hi MOTDB. I have no experience or knowledge of Edwards so I have no words of wisdom I'm afraid, but my ds was also diagnosed with having MDK at my 20 ish week scan so I know about it (ds is now 2.7) and is absolutely fine. Do let me know how you get on with your amino, I don't know the links between the 2 but I hope you get the results you want to hear, I know you never want to hear that something is wrong with your baby but you just kinda get on with things and I know for me, the practical side just took over. Any questions do ask x
