When to tell DS about pregnancy

I am 12 weeks pregnant and have ds who is 3. Im just wondering about when to tell him? Id quite like to tell him now so he can join in excitement, but im not due till October and thats a long time for a three year old!

when and how did you tell your other dc about your pregnancy?

Congratulations! I was in the same position as you and told my 3-year old after the 12 week scan. I know it is a long time for them to wait but I didn't want someone asking my son about the baby and him being 'the last to know' if you see what I mean. We got him to tell friends the baby news which was cute! He seems to have coped so far, it was the right decision for us. I can however see a lot of sense in holding off for a while.

I am also 12 weeks with a dd who is 4. We didn't want to tell her too soon this time after we did last year only to find out I mcd.
We told her about 5 weeks ago as I've been in and out of hosp with HG.
However, kids are not daft, they listen to everything and I knew she would work it out eventually.

If you've had your 12wk scan then I would say it was possibly a good time. October is ages away, yes, but we just talk about all the things that have to happen before baby is ready. Eg, holiday, my bday, starting reception etc.

i think i might tell him this weekend - id like to start getting him excited about being a big brother. and yes, as you say meyers we have told other people now , so Id like to tell him before he overhears it elsewhere.

my sister told her ds when she started to show (he was 2 1/2) she was worried about how he would react to having a new baby in the house but I will always remember going to see them just after my niece was born and him rushing to meet me at the door with a huge grin on his face saying "quick come look at my sister she's amazing!!"

We told DD first as it seemed important that she know, even though it didn't mean much. She was almost 3. Just a simple 'mummy's going to have another baby so you will be a big sister', at 6 weeks. Then we just didn't say much else in case of bad news. We showed her the scan pictures but I wasn't really convinced she had taken it in until she told a carer at the nursery about it all. That was after she had heard the heartbeat at 16 weeks as she came to the appointment. Now she loves to talk to my bump and thinks its funny to rest on me and be kicked in the head lol! We'll see how much she likes that once her brother is actually here...

We told ours at 12 week and bought them a big brother and sister present. We included them in mostly everything except birth and scans. They liked to kiss my tummy and knock to see if babies would reply. When dts were born we bought them each a present and said it was from babies. Worked for us.

We knew that lots of people would be talking about the pregnancy so we told DS shortly after the 12w scan.

He's only 23mo though so not very fussed. He knows there's a baby in mummy's tummy and it is growing big and will come and stay with us when it is big enough.

We told 4 year old son after 12 weeks scan, but it's been such a long time for him (I'm 34 weeks now) we told him as he had heard us talking and was asking questions, if we were getting a baby.

He keeps asking when will the baby 'pop out' (if only it did jut pop out and at Christmas he thought Santa was going to leave the baby under the tree with the presents.
