Pregnant (IVF) Worriers

Hi everyone,

This thread is for all you incessant worriers out there, not necessarily limited to IVF-ers, although I get the feeling the people who have had trouble TTC are more prone to worrying than others!

A few of us graduated from the IVF thread (link below) and are having a go at our own thread to get out of the other IVF-ers hair! So get your roomy jogging bottoms on for some virtual hand holding, mutual symptom spotting and staying sane until the next scan date.

shazza did you do roll ups? As in, rolling up from lying down, to seating? From a certain nr of weeks I thought that was not advised anymore, because it is stressing the six pack muscles which are going to stretch out with increasing bump. Putting direct stress on the six pack muscles (they have a name, I can't remember now), increases the risk of them separating (diastasis). (I don't think you have to worry yet, but am surprised a heavily pregnant woman is doing them on the video). expatal is our resident pilates expert I think ...

Agree that it feels weird. For me the weird feeling is pulling in your belly button to your spine, sometimes feels a bit strange like I am restricting the babies somehow, although the pull is only small.

I am still quite pleased with Tracey A. I still haven't found the love with pilates, I do it, but I don't feel challenged. The instructor at work did say that I am very strong (I am on things like plank type exercises), so maybe that is why I feel like that. Tracy Anderson's video does a lot of leg lift variations on all fours which indirectly really works your abs. Feels good (to me). It's funny how in the beginning I felt Tracy's Month 4 workout was a doddle, now I am panting and end up with a sheen of sweat. I am slowing down! Going to preggo pilates tonight.

I woke up early this morning (nothing unusual there, my circadian rhythm has totally changed!). I put my hand on my belly and I felt this hard bit sticking out a bit to the right and then after a while the hard bit moved away. Baby something poking out? I woke up my husband to make him verify my findings. He concurred. I am NOT making it up! ;-)

crisps thanks for your story. As you say I heard the heartbeats so that's proof enough for now.

We're undecided whether to find out or not ...

Oh and re pilates, when is it ok to start? really missing doing some exercise, I was near the end of 30 day shred when i got my bfp

Shazzamattazzerly · 14/05/2013 18:29

Hello ladies

Expat im so glad your scan was good. Its natural to feel sad about what might have been. Honestly all you ladies are so inspiring and a lesson to me in courage and bravery.

I can't believe my obsessive googling hasn't unearthed the low histamine diet before either. Did you find the low histamine chef? Also I got the guidelines from the chronic urticaria society website that has an easy to follow list of allowed foods. Let me know how you get on. We can compare notes.

dildals and expat thanks for the Pilates info. She did do roll ups with 2 cushions under her back. Of course I couldn't do them because my abs are well hidden but I could feel them working and that's what I was worried about. She does a lot of stretching and small ab crunchy type things. I've done Pilates before so I recognise the exercises it just feels weird pulling my tummy in as you say dildals I can definitely feel it though. My triceps and thighs are aching! I've done a fair bit of yoga so I'm aware if my body. I guess I'll just be careful. I don't want to pull anything or hurt the baby. I think it's a good idea to do some live classes too. I think I might do a few then I can follow the DVD.

Dildals how exciting to feel something. Did you see it too or just feel it. I've just tried on a pair of Leigh jeans and agree they are super soft. I'm worried they might be too skinny for me. While I want to flaunt the bump I'm not sure I should be flaunting everything. I'm going to try to pursuade DP to come with me at the weekend for a second opinion. I also popped into h&m but haven't made a purchase yet. I'd forgotten how much I dislike shopping. I never know if I like something or not!

I hope crisps and sweetie are ok.

Have a good evening. X

Shazzamattazzerly · 14/05/2013 18:30

Foody I'm afraid I don't know when to start. Maybe after your 12 week scan? You could do some gentle walking or swimming til then. Expat do you know?

putthecrispsDOWN · 14/05/2013 19:03

Hi folks. Scan went well. TWO little heartbeats fluttering away. Am almost over the shock....spoke to old consultant from foetal care who said no reason that last time should have any impact on this time which helped. Here we go again!!

Foodylicious · 14/05/2013 19:07

YAY crisps that is great news Grin, put your feet up and have a Brew on me

putthecrispsDOWN · 14/05/2013 19:20

Thanks. Need to stop scaring myself with stupid bloody American websites about twins. I need to disable google on my bloody iPad as it is turning me into a fuckwit!

ExpatAl · 14/05/2013 19:56

Thanks again - you're all making me very weepy, in the nicest possible way. Thanks

Foody, I started again around 13 weeks. It entirely depends on how you feel. If you can take at least a few classes first, so you can be sure of what core muscles to use and how so you don't hurt yourself when you do the dvd. Your coccyx should not figure at all and you should have no pain in it. Just throwing that in because it's a common complaint of people who start. If your coccyx hurts leave it a few days and then go over the basics again.

I love the feeling of belly into spine although baby really kicks now when I do it. Am I weird?

TWO crisps! That's fab and wonnderful and I'm secretly jealous. How do you feel about it though?

Sweetie, hope all is well with you.

Mrs H, I get seen every 2/3 weeks but it's not particulary normal. You do get more apts in Belgium than the UK though. The maternity services in the UK seem really stretched although I get that entirely from the MN pregnancy section so don't know if it's really true.

Keep, have a great holiday.

SweetieTime · 14/05/2013 20:24

Hi all just popping in with our scan news. We saw not only one little fluttering heartbeat but two!!! OMG we are having twins too. It was amazing to see, we were both quite emotional. I still can not quite believe it. I know there is a long way to go yet but I am stunned. Off for a lie down in a dark room now.

Crisps great news that we can be twin buddies. Congratulations. We were at Care BTW, we are discharged now.

Am going to work from home tomorrow so I can freely Google everything that is currently buzzing through my head. Think I may need to order a few maternity items sooner than I thought too.

Foodylicious · 14/05/2013 20:30

OMFG sweetie, if it was allowed i bet you could do with a stuff drink! havd a Biscuit or 2 instead.
reast well hon x x

MrsHY1 · 14/05/2013 20:40

Wow Sweetie and Crisps that's awesome! Buy one get one free! Congrats Grin

fairypangolin · 14/05/2013 21:03

Good lord it's a twin epidemic! Wonderful news Crisps and Sweetie! I'm beginning to feel a bit left out since we had two embies but back but only one developed. Well, not really as I'm happy with just one. :-) but I'm also so happy for both of you.

Dildals · 14/05/2013 21:04

Oh, fantastic, Sweet and crisp!!! Fellow twin pregnancies! Everyone is telling me that having twins is v special, so I will say that to you too, HAVING TWINS IS FABULOUS AND YOU ARE GOING TO REALLY ENJOY IT!

Dildals · 14/05/2013 21:06

Oh, and you will eventually get over that first shock. Don't google pictures of '7 month belly pregnant with twins' though! TAMBA has quite a useful site.

Foodylicious · 14/05/2013 21:28

Hi, I had booking in appt, just paperwork, no bloods until 11-14wk scan apparently, is this normal? dont know what i was expecting, but iron level check or something i guess?

MarianaTrench · 15/05/2013 02:58

Wow to more twins! Congratulations crisps and sweetie, it must be thrilling and daunting. A parent at nursery was looking at my little one today and told me she was 8 months gone with twins but she was very petite and didn't look all that enormous to me. They must have been very compact in there.

Have a good holiday keep

expatal, I'm a 32D normally so not huge but my boobs go mad in pregnancy. They get both enormous and very sore so I wear a bra at night too. The Bodysilk ones are my favourites for day and night. They don't give brilliant shape but I don't find maternity bras ever do. I had bad engorgement when my milk came in and found myself leaning over a sink of hot water trying to massage them! For a few days I had to express before every feed just to soften them, it was horrible, but now they are being drained on a regular basis they're fine, the pain is less and I can just wear a nursing vest with a secret support panel at night. My nipples are still traumatised but that will take another few weeks to resolve.

MarianaTrench · 15/05/2013 02:59

Foody yes it's normal for bloods to be taken then. Don't worry!

MarianaTrench · 15/05/2013 03:04

I took the baby out in the pram today, just to the local shops. She screeched every time I stopped walking. In the post office queue I was told she needed a dummy and that she was hungry. In the Coop I was told she was too little to be out and in the chemist I was told she needed a dummy again. All very annoying, I'd forgotten that people go from commenting on your bump to giving you unsolicited advice about your baby. Everyone knows everyone round here too so I can't even be rude!

Dildals · 15/05/2013 07:53

Oh, the midwife did take my bloods at my booking in appointment and I had another set of bloods taken at the scan. Must be different ways of doing it in different parts of the country.

Shazzamattazzerly · 15/05/2013 07:53

Morning girls

Oh my goodness. TWINS crisps and sweetie that's amazing!!!! So exciting. I'm so happy for you. Wow great news.

Mariana I can't believe those rude people giving their tuppence worth. How on earth does anyone think that that is acceptable? Too young to be out? Heavens what century do they live in?

Expat I'm starting to wish I was being seen every 2 weeks. I might move to belgium. The 20 week scan seems so far away. How do we know that everything is ok in there?

Foody I had blood pressure and bloods done at the booking appt. and lots of paperwork. They couldn't weigh me though cause I don't have scales at home. I guess I need to buy some as all my MW appts are at home.

Have a lovely day everyone. Especially the new twin mummies who will hopefully be getting used to their news Grin

X

MarianaTrench · 15/05/2013 09:30

I was only weighed once, at booking, Shazza so I wouldn't bother buying scales. If you're not high BMI I don't think they bother too much. It's a huge wait between 12 and 20 weeks. I had heartbeat done every 2 weeks from whenever they can do it, 14 weeks? But that was all. My consultant said there was no point as many of the problems they can pick up at 20 week scan can't be identified before then. Eg heart development doesn't finish until 18/19 weeks so it will not appear fully formed before then and thus just cause concern. Anyway, it's an even longer wait between 20 weeks and delivery! I had additional scans after that for reassurance but that's only because of my history.

SweetieTime · 15/05/2013 12:35

Dildals sleepless night here worrying about how we will cope. We are pleased but I think reality is setting in after the initial elation. I will have a look on TAMBA though and see what good tips they have for us.

Crisps how are you feeling?

Mariana how rude of random strangers to interfere with your trip to the shops with DD. I would have told them where to shove their advice. But it is a small village where I live too so I know what you mean about everyone knowing everyone else.

I have booked in with the midwife on Friday, I explained to the receptionist I knew we were having twins so she squeezed me in. It is all feeling very real now.

Dildals · 15/05/2013 13:35

sweet In the beginning I didn't worry about anything in particular, it was just everything, the entire bit of having twins, was just too big to take in. I felt a bit better when I read at TAMBA that pretty much everyone feels terrified quite quickly after the elation has settled. My thoughts on finances: 'lots of people have 2 kids and seem to survive above the breadline, so we'll prob be OK'. On how busy it is going to be: 'One is going to be busy too, having a second one is busy, with two, I think you just get on with it, adrenalin will get you thru those first couple of months!' I am really looking fwd to see how they'll develop, interact with eachother, all four of us sitting on the sofa watching telly on Sat night. Having the twins to comfort you when you cry (a quid pro quo to be fair).

I found this on the net not long after I found out, which I thought was nice:

  1. Knowing that you are only going to have to go through the birth process once to end up with two children.
  1. Enjoying the fun of choosing two baby names that fit together perfectly.
  1. Being able to hold one baby in each arm while feeling a huge rush of love and pride.
  1. Watching your babies sleep peacefully, side-by-side.
  1. Only having to establish one routine.
  1. Getting all the sleepless nights over and done with in one go.
  1. Watching them carve out their own identities as they grow.
  1. Knowing that they are going to have a best friend in each other for life.
  1. Enjoying the attention that twins inevitably attract.
  1. Feeling confident that they can help each other on their first day at school.

  2. Discovering all their amazing little differences.

  3. Watching them create their own secret language and games.

  4. Knowing that they will never be lonely.

  5. Loving the fact that they are constant playmates and can entertain each other.

  6. Feeling special because you've joined the exclusive club of twin mums.

  7. Only having to buy one of every must-have toy and not having to give baby number two (by a few minutes!) hand-me-downs.

  8. Only having to bake one birthday cake and throw one birthday party a year.

  9. Seeing them learning and encouraging each other to reach their milestones.

  10. Watching them taking care of each other when one is upset or hurt.

  11. Knowing that their shared history means they have one of life's most unbreakable bonds.

Oh, and I am also convinced that I have discovered a pregnancy hormone that I haven't seen named in any of the pregnancy books: 'head in the sand' hormone. Normally I am the one who worries about money and how to organise things, but now, I think 'aaaah yes it'll be OK, we'll work it out', whereas that is normally DH's line. Yesterday we had the slightly surreal convo where DH was addressing financial planning and had this beatific peaceful smile thinking ...'aaaa, yes, it'll be OK, we'll work it out' ... :-)

Sweetie, what lovely news. You will cope - it will be bliissful chaos.
