can you have a smear test whilst pregnant

Just not sure , as have 2nd letter in last few months come through this morning. At my booking in the midwife said not at the moment? Just weird that my surgery keep sending the letters , they must have it on thier system Im pregnant??

I had two letter as well, u have to wait till 12 weeks after the baby's born - least that's what my dr told me to do.

it's annoying they don't seem to recognse the fact u're pg thou do they! lol.

I don't think they all communicate with each other at times.
I wouldn't have a smear while i was pregnant tbh.

ahh good ok , didnt think it was right that they should fiddle with the cervix really.

Hi no you have to have it after baby is born, i had the same problem my smear was well over due then i fell pregnant, everytime i phoned the doctors they said there is a note on the screen because you need a smear & i used to have to keep repeating myself "i know i am pregnant at the mo"

You will probably keep recieveing the letters but dont worry.

Nope - I got asked at first Hos appointment when last smear was, but you can't have one.....

I totally agree that you shouldn't get smear while pregnant but it used to be done I think. My aunt gave me a pregnancy book which she used while she was pregnant 10 years ago - I was reading it and it actually says that at your booking-in appointment, you'll be given a full medical including smear test! Shocked me but it was obviously done then... 10 years isn't even that long ago - quite scary!

I am due a smear as have had treatment following an abnormal smear in the past, so need regular check ups. I am 18 weeks pregnant. Even in my case, where it is obviously very important I have frequent smears, I have been advised to wait til after pregnancy.

Vaginal childbirth often sloughs off all the abnormal cells.

not just because of leaving the cervix alone by the way. Cells can undergo changes while you are pregnant that can lead to smears being reported as abnormal when actually all is well
