Am I just being thick about this?

Okay, went in for a prenatal visit yesterday and had this conversation with the nurse:

nurse: did you have cystic fibrosis screening last time?

me: well, I had amniocentesis and I believe it's included in that, right?

nurse: no, it's a separate test.

me: oh, okay, then I would like to have it.

she then proceeds to give me a form about it which states that if your blood work comes back positive, your partner/husband is then tested and if that is positive then you will be offered further testing including...amniocentesis

So I called back today to clarify.

me: so it says on this form that if the screening is positive you can have amnio, which I'm already scheduled for. Doesn't that make the screening redundant?

nurse: I don't believe we've ever done an amnio for cystic fibrosis.

me: yes, but do they not check with a standard amnio unless you have a positive screening?

nurse: hmmm, I'll have to call the lab.

Now, really, is it just me or does this all seem a bit strange?

At least I'm not alone! I tend to get a bit nervous at doctor visits (white-coat syndrome Blush) so I didn't want to press it yesterday. But, as I'll be paying for this instead of insurance I don't want anything unnecessary IYKWIM.
