Ways To Excuse Not Drinking?

I'm only a few weeks pregnant with my first child, and my husband and I don't want to tell anyone yet. However, we plan to visit his parents over Easter, and when we visit, there's usually a small amount of drinking involved, e.g. a drink before supper or possibly a bottle of wine for the table one of the evenings. I'm usually pretty enthusiastic about this Smile, so if I just say I don't want any, it truly will raise eyebrows.

Does anyone have tips? Excuses you used? Creative yet believable white lies? I'm usually honest to a fault, but I'm really just not ready to tell people yet.

I said that I had a big night coming up and I was being good before the upcoming binge! Worked with friends but maybe not family.

You both don't drink & say you're TTC? (+/- sad face so they don't pry too much more...)

Or both don't drink & say detox-ing?

I've had a stomach ulcer and acid reflux problem for months. As long as I was taking medication I was mostly fine drinking, but once I got pregnant I had to stop the meds and be on a strict diet for the stomach. No coffee, no alcohol, no spicy or sour food. So, most friends believed me that I just run out of acid lowering medication and have to do with diet only.

But from time to time I just order a drink, pretend I sip and then squirm and say my stomach is hurting.

I think it works.
