5 days of irregular contractions turns out I'm in latent labour, slow but doing something! Went into hospital this morning mw offered to do me a sweep see if it regulated the contractions I said yes, however after she found my cervix & said it was soft & could get her 2 fingers in the middle but couldnt complete the stretch & sweep as I had to stop her because it was really hurting to the point where I was sweating.. Did anyone else find this process painful? "/

I found internals agonising. However O didnt have latent labour and started contracting every three mins til baby arrived (24 hours). I only needed the G&A for the internals, as they were horrific. In fact, I plan.on asking what else can be done instead next time to avoid them.

I was so angry with myself for not letting her carry on and do the sweep and telling her to stop, but I was sweating it was that painful!! Everyone I know has said they haven't found internals or sweeps painful but god it was awful for me!

yes i found my last 2 sweeps horrific, i had to lie with my hands over my face because it was so bad! god help me in labour

I've never had a sweep but found internal exams (checking dialation) during my first labour extremely painful. Smear tests are also extremely painful for me. I assume some of us are just more sensitive than others.

I found my sweep at 40+3 more painful than any point of the labour itself (gas and air only, 9lb baby)...you're not alone!

Mmmmm I was thinking of requesting one at due date midwife app. on Sunday..., wondering now if that's a bad idea after reading your posts!
Used to OB's toe curling rummages so not sure!

Not just you - my MW had to have 2 attempts (once she'd tried the first time, I figured I may as well go for it as by then I had suffered with no benefit IYSWIM, so I asked her to have another go - she couldn't do it the first time as I was so tense). I was terrified and thinking, 'How will I actually give birth?' Sad But give birth I did (12 hours later) - at home, with a bit of gas & air, no tears or stitches - and I didn't even notice crowning, I thought it was all pretty manageable (hard work, but not horribly painful).

Never had a sweep, but internal exams in labour were more painful than contractions!

redwellybluewelly · 27/03/2013 09:09

First sweep was at 40+12 and was extremely painful, I bled so much afterwards my DH had to clean me up (mortifying moment)

The second sweep a few days later I couldn't cope with the pain and asked for her to stop.

Its your body - don't let anyone do anything which hurts you
