Basically that, I've gorged and gorged proper. 16 weeks in and 1 1/2 stone heavier!! I am just eating for the sake of eating and as from Monday it needs to stop.

Think it's psychological, I am a chronic dieter n since I've got pregnant i have seen it as a green light to binge on everything but its done nothing but make me feel icky / sickly / tired. N physical my skins poor and the weight gain is spiralling out of control.

Anyone else struggling? X

How much did you weigh before becoming PG? I ask because when I fell pg, I weighed only 81/2 stone, I gained a stone in my first trimester however as baby grew It slowed down, I eat a lot in the first few months, however I was feeling ill, lerhargic, light headed and faint and eating was the only thing that helped. I gained half a stone in second trimester and when weighed in labour I only weighed 11 stone. The last stone was put on literally in my last two weeks of pg.

Don't panic about your weight just now, it may just be an initial response to being pg, to ensure you have enough fat resources.

OP please dont stress, I know it's hard. I am the same as you, previously a very strict low carb dieter and have now gone to 3 meals a day plus extras and I know am making the most of it! I'm nearly 17 weeks and have put on just short of a stone.
However, as mrssham said above - how much did you weigh before pregnancy and what was your bmi? If you were slim and a low end bmi then just don't worry - weight threads where people say oh I've only put on 2lbs at 20 weeks are soul destroying - but they are so subjective as it matters greatly as to what the posters weight was pre-preg. If your bmi was high to start then logically you would not expect to put as much on.
Disclaimer - Kate Middleton is complete exception to the rule, she must have been no more than 8 stone before and appears at 20ish weeks to weigh no more and doesn't look remotely pregnant. Just erase her from your mind!

I put on a lot in the first trimester because eating was the only way I could cope with morning sickness. I really wouldn't beat yourself up too much because fast forward to 32 weeks and I began to struggle eating - just no room in there! Now I'm 38 weeks and even looking at a meal can make me feel full. That coupled with serious heartburn and acid indigestion makes for a very uncomfy tummy situation.

I'm in the same boat, I have gorged my way through the first trimester as it was the only way to keep ms at bay.

I don't weigh myself, but I do feel 'chubby'. Doesn't help that my tummy is more of a podgy spread rather than an obvious pregnant bump (15 weeks).

I am now managing to keep to 3 meals a day only most days, and like you, determined to keep things under control herein. Please don't worry. Experience from my last pregnancy tells me that my eating will settle down now ms has mostly passed. Good luck

Natasha it's 1lb a week in 2nd and 3rd trimester, otherwise it would be 40lb recommended weight gain during pregnancy rather than 24-30lbs!

Emsi don't worry! I did exactly the same last pregnancy, gained almost 5 stone by the time I gave birth Blush and eventually lost it all. 2 stone came off without trying (1 within a week of giving birth, the 2nd within a month) however the rest I did have to work to lose - friends have all said the same, 2 stone seems to be about the amount of "baby weight" the rest is just weight gain. If you want to lose it after then you will, but I'd definitely recommend trying to rein it in a bit from now on - I've been much more controlled this pregnancy as I learnt from my mistakes last time Grin

It seems to vary so much for everyone. I'm a gym bunny and a really healthy eater - had expected to be the same through pg, but as soon as ms hit there was no chance! I had to eat to stop feeling sick and dropped training massively as I was constantly exhausted. I put on a lot in the 1st tri, levelled out in the 2nd tri, and now at 32+0 have had tiny appetite for the past month and am totally back to a normal pregnancy weight gain. I worried so much at first that I would end up huge but nature has its way of sorting things out. The best thing you can do is relax and listen to your body - don't be hard on yourself and try not to overthink it too much!

Zoelda · 24/03/2013 18:55

5 stone both pregnancies.
Back to normal again now.
It really doesn't matter

emsibub · 24/03/2013 21:37

Awww thanks guys! Yeah this is DC2 n I put on 3 1/2 stone with DD1. it was all gone within 9 months. Remember hearing that elsewhere 9 months to put it on and 9 months to get it off. It's the MS that's done it I think, it's not that being full/empty helps the endless nausea but the actual chewing seems to stop the feeling? Weird.

I was 8 1/2 stone per pregnancy and a size 8. Found out we were pregnant at new year so already been noshing for most December n just not stop.

Ok so in bed watching last nights Saturday night takeaway with haribo n matchmakers then fresh healthier start tomorrow x

I've had an awful weekend of eating and emsibub I still have my nausea (5 weeks and counting!) and it really does disappear when I'm eating!

Was doing really well just sticking to specific meals and not snacking and was weighing myself each week and had only put on a pound in the first 10 weeks. But this weekend I have eaten bagels, beef and ale pie, Haribo, chocolate, sticky toffee pudding with custard (amazing!), crisps, more bread, milky Ovaltine, lollipops and drank loads of Ribena!

What's annoying is that for the first 10 weeks I had lost all interest in sweet things, but the sweet tooth is back...tomorrow is a new day!
