I'm still taking Healthy Start Vitamins at 38+5. These are the D.O.H recommended ones. You can get them free if you're on certain benefits or a low income or they're 98p for 60 for the women's ones or £1.81 for the under 5's. You can buy then from certain health and children centres. They have what you need in them with no unnecessary added extras which are better got from your diet.

I've been taking them since I found out I was PG but had been taking folic acid for about 18 months prior to conceiving (took a long time to get knocked up!). I'll continue to take them all the time I'm breastfeeding as well which is recommended too. Once the baby is 6 months old and has started weaning he will take the children's ones.

I bought pregnacare but the iron gave me constipation so these are much better for me and much, much cheaper!

Rue my mw gives me them for free even though I'm not actually entitled! Didn't realise you could buy them. She gave me a toothbrush and toothpaste too!

I took pregnacare but found it made my morning sickness much worse. There are lots of foods that have folic acid in them as foofighter has suggested. Others that are good are: grapes and raisins, brown rice, chick peas (tahini paste is uber rich - so a houmus salad with spinach, chick peas and other veg like vitamin c rich tomatoes would be a great source). Beetroot is also a good source - so add in a couple of those too and youre well on your way.

Many breakfast cereals are fortified too.

Pregnacare for me. Started taking three months before trying and will stop once I stop breast feeding. Seems to work for me but won't be for everyone.
